Northwest’s new offers, camp standouts: Defensive backs

The Northwest has a few really deep positions right now - offensive line, defensive line, wide receiver and defensive back.   When it comes to the DBs, both Oregon and Washington boast several quality prospects who are having breakout offseasons.   Here's a look at those performers:    DB risers    [player_tooltip player_id='1397322' first='Marquis' last='Tovia'], Rainier Beach (2029) — The highest-rising defensive back/athlete in the region, Tovia has seen his stock skyrocket in recent months.   The 6-foot-3 cornerback won an MVP award at the Avery Showcase, but that's only the beginning.   Since picking up his first scholarship offer from Washington State on May 2, Tovia has added Cal, UCLA, Utah, Washington and others.   He's a fully-cemented Power 4 recruit already, and has clear-cut national upside.    Tovia is one of the best young players in the region.    [player_tooltip player_id='1012408' first='Kaden' last='Johnson'], Bellevue (2028) — The 5-foot-10, 170-pound cornerback had arguably the best day of any defensive back at The Northwest Showcase, and picked up his session's MVP award.   Johnson is a fluid athlete with loose hips who looks perfectly comfortable in one-on-one coverage against some of the best players in Washington.   That goes a long way in explaining his recent surge of offers - Arizona, Florida State, Kansas State, Utah and others.   [player_tooltip player_id='1397308' first='Dash' last='Jones'], Federal Way (2030) — Jones said it best on his Twitter/X page.   He went to two camps this offseason and was rewarded at both - one with the underclassmen MVP award and multiple scholarship offers in the other.   Jones has picked up scholarships from Cal and UCLA to go along with a handful of others.   He'll be a 20-offer-plus guy eventually, but as a 2030 his peak is still a long way off.   Still, he's off to an incredible start, and is living up to the hype that began when he was in grade school.    [player_tooltip player_id='1335622' first='Mekhi' last='Fields'], Rainier Beach (2028) — Fields has picked up recent offers from Idaho and UNLV, establishing himself as a clear Division I prospect.   That was never really in doubt, but it's good to see the 2028 prospect get on the board early.   It's all up from here.    [player_tooltip player_id='937115' first='Jaxon' last='Lee'], Tigard (2027) — The unheralded Tigard wide receiver/defensive back was a standout at the Prep Redzone Exposure Series camp, then turned that momentum into a stellar day at The Northwest Showcase, where he earned a DB MVP award.   The 6-foot-3, 200-pound safety has picked up offers from Whitworth and Lewis and Clark, but is starting to hear from the Big Sky programs as well.   Lee is a late bloomer who is capitalizing on his exposure with big-time performances.    [player_tooltip player_id='1188105' first='J'Isaiah' last='Mitchell'], Puyallup (2027) — Prep Redzone has been sky-high on Mitchell for some time, particularly at wide receiver.   He makes this list because he recently picked up an offer from Washington as a defensive back.   It's an intriguing opportunity that solidifies Mitchell's status as a Power 4 talent on both sides of the ball.    That's more rare than you think.   Mitchell, a Boise State commit, s a special playmaker.     [player_tooltip player_id='1792192' first='Raymond' last='Preston Lagat'], Graham-Kapowsin (2027) — The 6-foot-2, 185-pound defensive back has had an excellent spring.   He started it off with his first Division I offer from Eastern Washington, then earned a DB MVP award at the Avery Strong Showcase.   He has since added another offer from Portland State.   Lagat is a Division 1 prospect and has proven it all offseason.   A big fall season should be in store.    Derek Earl, Willamette (2027) — The recent Willamette transfer has gone from relative unknown to sure-fire Division I prospect this offseason.    The 6-foot-2, 180-pound defensive back picked up offers from Eastern Washington and Portland State before a quick commitment to EWU.   Willamette's defensive backfield will be absolutely loaded this fall, particularly at the safety position.   [player_tooltip player_id='1125042' first='Barry' last='Myles'], Sheldon (2027) —    Justice Nguyễn, West Seattle (2027) — Nguyễn's hard work paying off with a recent MVP award at the Idaho camp    He's picked up an offer from George Fox and will have a chance to play college football at the next level.    [player_tooltip player_id='2090232' first='Amir' last='Harris'], Willamette (2029) — Willamette's roster is absolutely loaded with stars - both old and young.   Harris is a 2029 prospect who will be among the best defensive backs in the state this fall.   The 6-foot, 190-pound defensive back picked up his first Division I offer from UNLV this spring.   It won't be his last.    [player_tooltip player_id='1125322' first='Raiden' last='Avery'], Willamette (2027) — Avery is yet another Willamette defensive back having a good offseason.    The 6-foot-1, 170-pound defensive back has picked up several small schools offers - George Fox, Lewis and Clark and Linfield,    He'll be playing college ball.
