As we head into a new season of youth and middle school football around the country, below is a look at some class of 2027 prospects (athletes beginning their eighth-grade school year) that have come across my desk. As football recruiting and evaluating continues to change, the eighth-grade season is becoming a pivotal time for young athletes to garner early attention from Universities. Here’s a look at some prospects that are on the trajectory to be playing a high level of football for years to come.
Wes is a very physical two-way player coming out of Alabama. As a tight end, Wes blocks with incredible physicality and tenacity. Throughout his tape, he always moves his feet and relocates a defender away from where the ball is going. Another impressive aspect of Wes’s game as a tight end is his ability to get his hands on the defender and latch on to them as he moves them. Wes also seems to be the field general as a Linebacker on the defensive side of the ball, fittingly where we project him to play on the next level. He plays well in the run fits as well as dropping into coverage. Whether out in space or playing between the tackles, Wes does a great job making plays on the ball carrier and has no problem bringing his opponents to the ground. Wes has put together a solid playlist of highlights, and I am excited to watch him develop through out the rest of his career.
Kaden is a big-time offensive lineman out of the recruiting goldmine state of California. Standing 6-foot-2 and 275-pounds, Kaden plays Left Tackle and is one of the better pass protectors coming out of this class. He plays with incredible patience in the pass protection game; once the defender gets close, he shoots his hands and latches on. In the run game, Kaden uses his size and strength to move his opponents and opens up run lanes for his running backs following him. Most importantly, Kaden plays with extreme effort; no matter what, he always works to make a block or protect the quarterback. He’s part of a scary trifecta of Offensive Linemen currently suiting up for La Habra Lions 14U, alongside fellow 2027 prospects Troy Oliva Troy Oliva 6’2″ | 280 lbs | OL St. John Bosco | 2027 CA and Gabriel Anderson.
Jakeyveon is a breakaway running back out of the football powerhouse state of Georgia. One of the most impressive things about Jakeyveon’s game is his overall speed. Throughout all of the clips I have watched, Jakeyveon has no problem separating himself from the defense with his running ability. Another thing about Jakeyveon and how he plays is his overall physicality and tenacity at running back. When watching his film, it is evident that Jakeyveon is not going to let one or two tacklers bring him down; he is going to fight through them as he works his way to the endzone. He has shown this by simply dropping a shoulder and driving his feet through defenders, as well as continuing to fight through the second level with every ounce of effort. Jakeyveon is someone that everybody should be excited about in the future. I am expecting a big career out of Jakeyveon.

Coming out of the highly competitive state of Kentucky, Kasen seems to be a do-it-all type of player for Northern Pulaski’s 2022 Cumberland Valley Conference championship-winning squad. On offense, his tape shows him playing as a wildcat quarterback, slot receiver and running back. Playing out of the backfield, Kasen is one of the more patient backs that I have seen out of this class. He allows the blocks to develop in front of him as he searches for green grass. Additionally, Kasen is incredibly shifty with the ball in his hand. He has no problem making defenders miss when he has the ball in his hand. As a defender, Kasen plays out of the defensive backfield and seems to be the finisher for their defense. If the ball carrier has fought through tackles, Kasen has no problem coming through and finishing the job. Kasen also does a phenomenal job driving on the ball when he reads run. He comes down fast and brings the ball carrier down almost instantly. His versatility makes him a dangerous and valuable weapon, as he can literally play any of the traditional “skill” positions on the field. Kasen has a very impressive highlight tape, I am excited to see how he develops in the future.

Ryan is a two-way player coming out of the state of Massachusetts. As a defensive back, where we feel his game projects best, Ryan has a very instinctive nature to find the ball when it is in the air. His size and speed allow him to be a play maker on the back end of his defense. He has good length and covers ground quickly as a Safety. As a Quarterback, Ryan seems to be developing in tow a dual-threat quarterback who can get the job done with his legs or through the air. When Ryan is running with the ball in his hands, he has proven to be able to make defenders miss with his agility. He also has the speed to break away from the defense when in open field. When Ryan is slinging the rock, he does a great job of finding his receivers and putting the ball on them. Massachusetts is often overlooked when it comes to next-level talent, but Doyle certainly has a shot.

Devontray Brewer Devontray Brewer 6’1″ | 220 lbs | LB MS , a playing-making linebacker, is the latest stud 2027 prospect we’re covering out of Tupelo, Mississippi. At backer the 6-foot, 220-pound Devontray seems to have all of the tools necessary to be a stand-out linebacker at the next level. One of the most important abilities one needs as a linebacker is the vision to track the ball; through his highlight tape, Devontray has proven to have a nose for the football and works to the ball carrier with high speed and effort. Devontray is also a very physical football player, once he is in a position to make a tackle, the ball carrier is going down. Devontray has also demonstrated his ability as a ball carrier too. Some of his highlight tape has shown him as a wildcat quarterback. When Devontray has the ball in his hands, defenses better watch out; he is going to be running at you with speed and physicality. Devontray has proven to have all the tools needed to be a standout linebacker. His physical play is off the charts at this point.

Bryce is another extremely talented quarterback from the highly sought-after state of New Jersey. After reclassing to the class of 2027, the most impressive piece of Bryce’s game is his throwing ability. Bryce has next-level arm talent as he places the ball perfectly for his receivers to go and make plays on the ball. He possesses prototype size at 6-foot-3 and 190-pounds and his ability to drop the ball into a bucket on deep throws is also incredibly impressive. Bryce has shown early on that he should be one of the top dual-threat quarterbacks in the 2027 class. He should have plenty of attention from private high schools in New Jersey, Philadelphia and even Delaware. You’re going to want to stay tuned here, I promise.
