Every single Thursday on Prep Redzone Oklahoma, we’ll take a look at five players that you need to know about heading into the week of games. Week two features some great match-ups all across the state, including some can’t miss rivalry games. In this post, we have a great mix of offensive playmakers, dominating defenders and players that get it done on both sides of the ball. Be sure to check back every Thursday for the Players To Watch feature and then again every Sunday for our Top Performers!
One week after having to rally to beat Blanchard, the Noble Bears will hit the road to take on 4A powerhouse Tuttle on Friday night. The Lions trailed 27-14 at halftime and the high-powered passing attack brought them back and led them to a win, along with a shutout from their defense in the second half. Leading the way for Noble is their star quarterback Colin Fisher Colin Fisher 6’3″ | 200 lbs | QB Noble | 2023 State OK . The lefty is one of the best quarterbacks in the state but he’s headed to the next level to play baseball. Fisher absolutely lit up the Lions last week in the second half and put up monster numbers in the air as well as on the ground. Noble is hoping to not have to have a second half rally and if Fisher can put together a performance for four quarters, they should be able to beat a second consecutive top ten team in Class 4A.
Berryhill is hosting Cascia Hall in a match-up of top ten teams in Class 3A. Cascia Hall is coming off a tough loss to Rejoice Christian while Berryhill looked very impressive in their season opener. We expect to see an incredibly physical football game as both teams are almost mirror images of one another. One player that we’re very excited to see is Berryhill senior linebacker Ethan Stites Ethan Stites 6’2″ | 225 lbs | LB Berryhill | 2023 State OK . Like several players on Cascia Hall, Stites also doubles as a running back on offense and he plays like a linebacker as well. Stites was one of the hardest hitters that we saw during the spring at various team camps and we’re looking forward to seeing how he attacks a Cascia Hall offense that does not shy away from contact. One thing is certain when these two face off and that is that we’ll see some hitting on Friday.
Metro Christian had no problems in their season opener last week against NOAH but things get a little tougher as they hit the road to take on one of the better 4A programs in Poteau. Metro is led by their third year starter at quarterback in Kirk Francis Kirk Francis 6’1″ | 185 lbs | QB Metro Christian | 2023 State OK but he’s facing a Poteau defense that brings back nearly everyone from last year’s team and have a few standouts that will be playing at the next level. We’ve said this about Francis really for the last two years, he’s one of the best quarterbacks in the state and he’s arguably the best pure passer of the football when you look at his complete arsenal of throws that he can make. We expect for this to be an incredibly competitive game on Friday night and if Francis lights up the Pirates, Metro needs to be taken very seriously as a 3A title contender.
Following a close call against Millwood on a muddy field in week one, Heritage Hall returns home to face off with 4A defending champion Clinton. The Chargers are getting reinforcements with their head coach and star running back and linebacker River Faulkner River Faulkner 5’11” | 205 lbs | ATH Heritage Hall | 2023 State OK . The two had to sit out the season opener due to a suspension following last year’s semifinal. Faulkner is one of the best two-way players in the state but we are excited to see what he is able to do on the offensive side of the ball. We saw the debut of 2024 quarterback Andy Bass Andy Bass 6’0″ | 195 lbs | ATH Heritage Hall | 2024 State OK and we’re looking forward to seeing Bass and Faulkner in the backfield together. The Chargers could have one of the top rushing duos in Class 3A this fall with those two. We’ll get our first look at them as they take on the defending champs.
Highlights
Staying in Class 3A where another top ten team faces a ranked opponent from Class 4A as Perkins-Tryon hosts 4A’s #1 Cushing. The Tigers will come in with a high-powered offense and Perkins-Tryon will attempt to control the ground game behind junior running back Tre Stevenson Tre Stevenson 6’0″ | ATH Perkins-Tryon | 2024 State OK , who is one of the better up and coming prospects in the state’s 2024 class. Stevenson is incredibly dangerous at the running back position and enjoyed a breakout season as a sophomore last season and should have even better numbers this season. The combination of speed and power is what’s so impressive about Stevenson as he’s one of the better running backs in the state that is still flying under the radar. If the Demons can pull off the upset on Friday, he won’t be anymore.
