It’s the month of July and that means it’s preview time! Throughout the month of July, we are publishing 100 team previews to get you ready for the 2022 season. This is something that began last year and has become even bigger and better this year. We’re looking forward to diving deep into the top teams across the state. From defending champs, to top contenders and dark horses, we’ll have complete coverage every single day with new teams from Class 6A down to A. In this post, we take a look at the Heritage Hall Chargers. It’s been a few years since Heritage Hall made it to the title game and they’re hungry to end that this fall.
Heritage Hall Chargers (3A Preseason Ranking: #3)
There’s no secret that Heritage Hall has become one of the top programs, not only in Class 3A but in Oklahoma all together. It should come as no surprise that the Chargers are once again considered a top five team as they came in at #3 in our preseason rankings for Class 3A. The Chargers do have to replace one of the most electric playmakers in the state last year in Gavin Freeman but they have plenty of talent in other areas that should be able to step up and answer the call. The Chargers went unbeaten last year in the regular season and ran into that pesky Lincoln Christian team once again in the semifinals. After a controversial ending, the Chargers fell 27-20. But more on that playoff rivalry later on in this preview.
Heritage Hall turns their attention to this season and the Chargers are hungry to finally get thru the semifinal round and contend for a championship again. The Chargers haven’t won a gold ball since 2018 and when you look at their run from 2014-2018, going three straight years without a championship is a drought. But with seven starters back on offense and another six starters back on the defensive side of the ball, we expect the Chargers to once again be playing deep into November. The question is will they make it to Edmond in December? The Chargers will also have a new district schedule for the most part. Only one district opponent remains the same from last season after the redistricting shake up. Douglass will be the only district foe that the Chargers played last season. The six others will be new faces.

Players To Watch
[player_tooltip player_id="207182" first="Andy" last="Bass"] - 2024 Quarterback
Heritage Hall’s new quarterback will be 2024 QB [player_tooltip player_id="207182" first="Andy" last="Bass"] and we’ve heard some really great things about him already before he’s stepped on the field for the Chargers. Bass had to sit out the entire 2021 season after transferring to Heritage Hall and now he’s ready to take over in Class 3A and is a 2024 QB prospect on the rise after a really strong spring and summer. Bass is also a fantastic athlete that’s going to give the Chargers a legitimate running threat out of the backfield to go along with the running game. Bass ran a 10.77 100 meter earlier this year and is the fastest player on this Heritage Hall team.
[player_tooltip player_id="315546" first="Jordyn" last="Harris"] - 2024 Defensive Back
Another 2024 prospect to look out for this fall is defensive back [player_tooltip player_id="315546" first="Jordyn" last="Harris"] after he had a breakout 2021 season. Harris has the potential to be an absolute lockdown cornerback for the Chargers and he had an outstanding season a year ago. He didn’t allow a single touchdown and the Chargers went up against some teams that could throw the ball all over the yard. As the Chargers work in some new players into the secondary, look for Harris to be the leader from the cornerback spot. He’s going to be able to take care of the opposing team’s best wide receiver. Harris will also be used on offense at times this fall as well.
[player_tooltip player_id="157524" first="Orie" last="Walker"] - 2023 Wide Receiver
Heritage Hall will need a new playmaker at the wide receiver position after Gavin Freeman graduated and we like 2023 wide receiver [player_tooltip player_id="157524" first="Orie" last="Walker"] to be that guy this fall. Can he replicate Freeman’s production? Well the Charger coaches would love that but Walker is a different kind of wide receiver. He’s a big target and is usually a few inches taller than any DB that tries to defend him. Walker is also a standout basketball player but we think the real potential is on the football field where he could be a late blooming wide receiver prospect in the state’s 2023 class. It’s a position group that is loaded but a strong season will help Walker.
[player_tooltip player_id="155875" first="River" last="Faulkner"] - 2023 Running Back/Linebacker
The best player on Heritage Hall’s team coming into this season is 2023 running back and linebacker [player_tooltip player_id="155875" first="River" last="Faulkner"]. (Pictured above) With a lot of attention being put on Freeman last season, many might not know the kind of season that Faulkner had as a junior. He finished with over 1,100 yards and 22 touchdowns and also had 75 tackles on defense. Faulkner has the potential to be an absolute workhorse back for the Charger offense and when they get close to the goal line, we expect Faulkner to get the ball and we don’t know how many defenders there are in Class 3A that can stop him from going forward into the end zone.
More Names To Know
Cal Welker - 2025 Wide Receiver/Defensive Back
Cooper Cookson - 2023 Linebacker
Zach Fetrow - 2023 Linebacker
Zavier Freeman - 2024 Offensive/Defensive Lineman

2022 Schedule/Games To Circle
Sept. 1 - AT Millwood
- The Chargers will once again open up the season against fellow OKC rival Millwood on a Thursday night. This series has definitely been a fun one to watch as it started a few years ago and has become an annual season opener for both teams. Another fun part of this growing rivalry is that they’ve kept the game on a Thursday night. For week one’s games, this one is normally the marquee match-up and a lot of attention gets put on this one. Heritage Hall has been dominant over Millwood in the last few meetings but the Falcons have reloaded and are ready to do some serious damage this season in Class 2A.
Sept. 9 - Clinton
Sept. 16 - John Marshall
Sept. 23 - AT Lone Grove
Sept. 30 - Pauls Valley
Oct. 7 - AT Douglass
Oct. 13 - Dickson
Oct. 21 - Plainview
- The top two ranked teams in the district will face off in week eight as Heritage Hall welcomes in new district foe Plainview. The Chargers moved districts this year after the redistricting shuffle and they will now face Plainview for at least the next two seasons in district play. Plainview has been one of the top teams in Class 3A over the last several seasons and they are ready to make another run this fall. They’re used to being pretty dominant in their district and so is Heritage Hall so something will have to give when they face off in week eight. It’s not crazy to think that the district championship will be on the line here.
Oct. 28 - AT Sulphur
Nov. 4 - AT Marlow
- Two weeks after facing Plainview at home, the Chargers will hit the road in the final regular season game to take on defending 2A champion Marlow. This is the second state champion that the Chargers will play this season after facing the reigning 4A champ Clinton in non-district play. Marlow won the 2A championship last season and had a perfect 15-0 record. However, the combination of moving up to Class 3A and big graduation hits will hurt the Outlaws early on in the season. But by the time week ten rolls around, Marlow could be rolling and give the Chargers all they want before the playoffs begin the following week.

Notable
At this point, it is fair to say that Heritage Hall is one of the top programs in the state. Since 2014, the Chargers nearly have as many state championships as they do losses. The score currently sits at 4 titles to just 7 losses. Additionally, these titles span across multiple classes. From 2A all the way to 4A, Heritage Hall has been dominant regardless of who or where they have played. Although they have not been to a title game since 2018, they have not gone anywhere. However, Lincoln Christian has become an extreme thorn in the side of the Chargers. Lincoln has beaten Heritage Hall in three straight semifinal appearances. However, because of the redistricting, these two teams will be on opposite sides of the bracket if they both win the district championship. If they meet again in the playoffs again this fall, there’s a good chance that it will be in Edmond with a championship on the line.
