Today I will be highlighting the defensive side of the ball. With a couple of Cincinnati kids and a couple of Trotwood Madison kids, southwest Ohio dominates my article today.
2024 ATH Jay’Quan Bostic (Woodward) 6’3 175- Bostic (Seen above) is a very intriguing prospect. Based on his movement traits and length I really like him as a Safety at the college level. He’s raw as a prospect, but physically there’s A LOT to like. For starters he’s soooo long and he has good long speed. His footwork and hips are a work in progress, but I think with reps and time he’ll get there. I like him as a big rangy safety that is going to spend a lot of time in the box. He plays downhill and loves to stick his nose in it. You can move him around to cover, blitz, or defend the run. This next year he’s going to have a chance to grow into his body, fill out and get stronger, and if he works on his technique I think could skyrocket as a prospect.
2024 DB Charles Johnson Triggs (Winton Woods) 6’0 175- Johnson Triggs could play both defense and offense this year for the Warriors. I’m going to profile him today as a DB. Johnson Triggs has a thick frame for a DB and with a couple more years to grow and get stronger he’s going to be a menace. He has the athleticism and the fluid hips to turn and run. He’s a kid who’s going to be able to be physical and redirect receivers at the line of scrimmage. You don’t see as much of that as you used too. The hot thing now is length and athleticism, but a physical corner can really cause issues and frustrate receivers to the point it takes them out of their game. Winton Woods obviously has a ton of talent returning and I’m excited to see What Charles Johnson Triggs has in store for us in his junior season.
2024 CB Mike Smith Mike Smith 5'10" | DB Trotwood Madison | 2024 State OH (Trotwood-Madison) 5’10 160- Smith is athletic and fundamentally sound cornerback. You don’t see him get beat technically very often. He does a great job of mirroring and staying in the receiver’s hip pocket. In the off instances the receiver does get the advantage Smith battles and does a great job of recovering. He’s about as levelheaded a player as you’ll find. The biggest thing for Smith in my eyes at this point is just continuing to fill out and get stronger which only comes with time. I expect him to keep working and sharpening his craft and with the development of his body his things are going to continue opening up for him in his recruiting process.

(Trotwood-Madison) 5’10 140- The incoming sophomore is as explosive a defensive back as you’ll find. He brings a swagger to the field. He explodes in and out of breaks effortlessly. He’s not afraid to compete against older and bigger players, even if it means taking his lumps from time to time. As Clark continues to get bigger and stronger, his recruitment will begin to take off.

2024 LB Dom Purcell Dom Purcell 6'0" | ATH Bishop Watterson | 2024 State OH (Bishop Watterson) 6’0 195- Purcell looks to build on the momentum of a strong sophomore season where he earned all state honors. At this point I like Purcell as a safety, but being that he’s a ’24 I’d like to see how he continues to grow and fill out. He has the speed and athleticism to cover wide receivers and he’s strong enough to run fit. In the video below you see Purcell’s ability to drop, but his explosiveness and ability to come up and play the run. His versatility will be a huge asset to him and his recruiting process. At this point, I like Purcell as a fit for the D1 FCS to D1 mid-major levels.
