1st-Team Defense

- Mario Landino | 6’3, 235 | Emmaus | 2024
Incredible group of five here. The whole recruiting spectrum is covered within this group, with big FBS-caliber prospects leading the way in Greene, Lance, and Chmura. Speaking on two more local names, I came away pleased with Short & Landino’s performances. I loved the attention to detail each showed. I loved each’s ability to take coaching and apply it right away. I especially love each’s work ethic throughout the entirety of the event. Each are similar in their approach to winning reps against offensive linemen, with both kids heavily utilizing their speed rush to bend corners around less-athletic big men. I can’t wait to include both Landino and Short in our upcoming rankings update.
As for the rest, Greene, Lance and Chmura were as advertised. Chmura and Lance has incredibly quick off the ball for their size. Chmura is someone who I trust to win reps inside or out, he’s got a unique blend of power and speed that college coaches at the next level will covet. Lance is more of an interior dominator. He’s quick with his hands and feet, but his powerful punch can overwhelm opponents. Conlan Greene Conlan Greene 6'4" | 265 lbs | DL Penn-Trafford | 2023 State PA ate kids up, seemingly won each rep that I had my eyes on him. You have to consider that this group went up a seriously talented OL group. No rep was easy. I’d go to war with these five any day.
Linebackers
- Kade Werner Kade Werner 5'10" | 200 lbs | LB Bishop McDevitt | 2023 State PA | 5’10, 200 | Bishop McDevitt | 2023
- Siddiq Small Siddiq Small 6'0" | 215 lbs | LB Liberty | 2023 State PA | 6’0, 215 | Liberty | 2023
- Jake Yelton | 6’0, 210 | Greencastle Antrim | 2023
- Jaime Rivera Jaime Rivera 6'0" | 215 lbs | LB Abington | 2023 State PA | 6’0, 215 | Abington | 2023
Our Pennsylvania area scout Dylan Callaghan-Croley covered the linebackers performances in depth here.
Here’s an exert from his analysis on each prospect.
“Rivera is the type of player that once he is able to focus solely on being a linebacker, his play at the position is going to get even better.”
“Wener excels in all areas of the game and if he was a bit bigger, would be a bonafide FBS level talent in my opinion. I believe he could still potentially reach that level with a strong summer and senior season.”
“Small moves extremely well and has a nice burst to his game as well that you can see both in drills and one-on-one situations but also on his tape.”
“Sunday, he looked strong in individual drills as well in the one-on-one session of the game, showing quality coverage skills, which wasn’t as prevalent in his junior season highlight tape.”
Defensive Backs
- Keino Fitzpatrick II | 5’8, 160 | Montour | 2024
- Lamont Samuels Lamont Samuels 5'9" | 145 lbs | DB Farrell | 2023 PA | 5’9, 150 | Farrell | 2023
- Ben Lane Ben Lane 5'10" | 155 lbs | ATH Freeport | 2023 State PA | 5’10, 155 | Freeport | 2023
- Kyle Greene | 6’0, 180 | Calvert Hall | 2025
- Herlin Perry | 5’9, 140 | La Salle Academy | 2025
I applaud each and every prospect who came out and was willing to compete at defensive back against real speed. This list is in no particular order. Freeport’s Ben Lane Ben Lane 5'10" | 155 lbs | ATH Freeport | 2023 State PA would be in the running for complete camp MVP. Arguably the best testing performance behind Kylon Wilson Kylon Wilson 5'10" | 170 lbs | ATH Farrell | 2023 State PA , as well as arguably the best defensive back performance put on display this past weekend. I also believe Lane caught some passes towards the end of this event just to show off his entire repertoire. I am not sure if a any other prospect shot their stock up higher than Lane. Can’t wait to show it when our rankings finally get their long awaited update.
Taking a look at his tape, you’d fully expect Montour’s Keino Fitzpatrick to excel at this event. That he did. Such a consistent back pedal, consistent feet, consistently balanced. Fitzpatrick showed just how seasoned a DB he is. Calm and collected, he was up for any challenge presented to him. He also plays bigger than 5’8, 165, he’s a DB that isn’t afraid to get into the chest of opponents.
Behind Ben Lane Ben Lane 5'10" | 155 lbs | ATH Freeport | 2023 State PA for highest stock-riser from this event might be Lamont “LJ” Samuels. Samuels also tested really well and was lights out in coverage. His anticipation, combined with his route recognition had him breaking up passes left and right. Ball skills are there, the ability to bump and run was shown. An overall annoying defensive back full of confidence, and I mean annoying in the best of ways. Mightily impressed.
Last but not least we have two out-of-state defensive backs, both of which are freshman! These two impressed all of the coaches in attendance, so much so they had to be picked as top performers. Herlin Perry has a ways to go from a frame/build perspective, but again, he’s a freshman who showed off active hands all throughout the camp. He showed the ability to stay square and flip his hips when needed. The young man came away with numerous INT’s and PBU’s in coverage. Kyle Greene out of Calvert Hall impresses both physically and in coverage. Handsy and physical when in phase. Greene isn’t going to wow you with make-up speed, he’ll wow you with his ability to deter opponents off their routes. His skillset looks that of a safety or linebacker, so his performance during 1v1s against speed should show just how versatile this young man could become. Excited to watch his development considering he is just a freshman.
