The third Oklahoma Showcase camp took place over the weekend at the Titan Sports Complex and we saw plenty of talent throughout the afternoon. Prospects from six different states participated in the event and we saw some great competition. Over the next few days, we’ll have several articles talking about some of the prospects that we saw but in this post, it’s the absolute best of the best. These prospects earned MVP honors at their positions for their work on Saturday.
<span style="font-size: 18pt;"><strong>QUARTERBACK MVP</strong></span>
<strong>[player_tooltip player_id="38790" first="Kirk" last="Francis"] - 2023 - Metro Christian</strong>
He’s one of the best quarterbacks in the state and he showed why on Saturday. Metro Christian 2023 QB [player_tooltip player_id="38790" first="Kirk" last="Francis"] was outstanding throughout the drills and during 1 on 1 competitions. I’m on the record that Francis has the best pure arm talent of any quarterback in this 2023 class and that was on display Saturday. It didn’t matter what the throws were throughout the drills or 1 on 1 competitions, Francis was accurate and the ball came out of his hands in a hurry. Francis and his stock has gone up in a big way this offseason with all the work he’s put in. The recruiting process is brutal for QB’s because of the portal but Francis should be at the top of the QB boards for 23’s out of Oklahoma.
<strong><span style="font-size: 18pt;">RUNNING BACK MVP</span></strong>
<strong>[player_tooltip player_id="311219" first="Xavier" last="Shackelford"] - 2023 - Norman</strong>
It was a tough choice between MVP and Norman 2023 running back [player_tooltip player_id="311219" first="Xavier" last="Shackelford"] and Jenks 2023 running back [player_tooltip player_id="47955" first="Jaiden" last="Carroll"]. In testing, the Jenks standout ran a 4.40 40 yard dash but also split time as a DB. Meanwhile, Shackelford might not have run the times that Carroll did, but he absolutely dominated the 1 on 1 competitions. As a pass catcher, Shackelford was catching anything and everything near him. It seemed like the only times he didn’t catch a pass a flag would have been thrown in a game setting. Shackelford isn’t the biggest running back prospect but that didn’t matter in the 1 on 1’s. Not only was he running away from defenders but he was completing the catch process through contact.
<strong><span style="font-size: 18pt;">WIDE RECEIVER MVP</span></strong>
<strong>[player_tooltip player_id="288967" first="Kevon" last="Robinson"] - 2024 - Coweta</strong>
One prospect that has had an absolutely eye-opening spring has been Coweta 2024 wide receiver [player_tooltip player_id="288967" first="Kevon" last="Robinson"]. This is a wide receiver prospect that is under the radar right now but should be considered a potential breakout star this fall. Robinson tested out incredibly well in terms of the speed and quickness drills and then it was time for the competitions and Robinson was ready to show out in a big way. It didn’t matter what route Robinson was running, he found a way to get separation and was excellent at bringing the ball in. Between his performance on Saturday and throughout the spring playing 7v7 with Sooner 7, Robinson definitely needs to be a name to watch going into the 2022 season.
<strong><span style="font-size: 18pt;">OFFENSIVE LINEMAN MVP</span></strong>
<strong>[player_tooltip player_id="154212" first="Ace" last="Hodges"] - 2024 - Casady</strong>
Before we get into the breakdown, this is somewhat of an announcement as 2024 offensive lineman [player_tooltip player_id="154212" first="Ace" last="Hodges"] has transferred from OCS to Casady. Hodges has been at the top of our offensive lineman charts since we started doing the 2024 rankings and he performed like that on Saturday. What was great to see was not only was he getting as many reps on offense as possible but he was going over to the defensive side of the ball and putting work in there. Hodges continued to excel in the camp setting and you can see that he’s just getting better and better in terms of technique. He earned his spot on this list and it’ll be interesting to see how he looks this fall with the Cyclones.
<span style="font-size: 18pt;"><strong>DEFENSIVE LINEMAN MVP</strong></span>
<strong>[player_tooltip player_id="154213" first="Bergin" last="Kysar"] - 2024 - Edmond Santa Fe</strong>
If we were giving out an overall MVP for this past weekend it would go to Edmond Santa Fe 2024 defensive lineman [player_tooltip player_id="154213" first="Bergin" last="Kysar"]. This Santa Fe prospect put on an absolute clinic during the 1 on 1 competitions against any and every offensive lineman he went against. And the thing that put Kysar at the top of the charts for me was his versatility and not relying on the same move. He would work his opponent to the outside, then come back on the next rep and go to the inside. He was mixing up his rushing moves in a way that made it tough to slow him down. And most fell short of doing so as Kysar got into the backfield time after time. Only a 2024 prospect, Kysar has a very high ceiling and impressed in a big way Saturday.
<strong><span style="font-size: 18pt;">LINEBACKER MVP</span></strong>
<strong>[player_tooltip player_id="292484" first="Jake" last="Tucker"] - 2023 - Tuttle</strong>
A prospect who first got on our radar while doing our "Friday Film Review" series was Tuttle 2023 linebacker [player_tooltip player_id="292484" first="Jake" last="Tucker"]. We were happy to see that he was going to be participating in our camp on Saturday and it was going to be a good opportunity to look at him in person. He definitely looked the part physically and then watching him run around during the drills you can see that he has some promising traits. Linebacker is always a tough position to break down during these camps because the drills are all leaned toward the offense and for the most part, linebackers don’t look as good as other positions. But that wasn’t the case with Tucker. And after the 2022 class was loaded with linebackers, the 2023 class is not so Tucker has a chance to soar up the boards.
<span style="font-size: 18pt;"><strong>DEFENSIVE BACK MVP</strong></span>
<strong>[player_tooltip player_id="330941" first="Damien" last="Marshall"] - 2024 - Union</strong>
This was another position group where it was a tight race as several prospects could make a case for being the MVP. Ultimately, it goes to Union 2024 defensive back [player_tooltip player_id="330941" first="Damien" last="Marshall"]. He’s another prospect that is on the rise with us after watching him perform really well during 7v7 tournaments and then he performed really well on Saturday. Last week, we wrote about Marshall’s teammate and fellow DB [player_tooltip player_id="310982" first="Thomas" last="Gothard"] being a potential breakout star and he had a good camp as well. Marshall did a good job during the drills and competitions and while this pick was tough, one thing is for sure and that is that Union has some good talent coming back this fall in the secondary.
