Our look at the class of 2025 moves to the defensive side of the football as we look at the standouts on the defensive line. We've previously looked at quarterbacks, running backs, tight ends, wide receivers, and offensive linemen.
Pennsylvania's class of 2025 is showing some promising returns early on, on the defensive including one player who could be one of the most sought-after players in the country in the class of 2025 when it's all said and done. Let's take a look at those early standouts on the defensive line.
DE [player_tooltip player_id="142896" first="Zahir" last="Mathis"] (Imhotep Charter)
Mathis at one point or another in the future could have an argument in the future as the top overall prospect in Pennsylvania’s class of 2025. Despite being just a freshman, Mathis is built like a defensive end who could be entering college next season. Straight and simple, he will be not just one of the best players in the state of Pennsylvania when it’s all said and done but will also be one of the nation’s top defensive end prospects. He already holds double-digit offers including Georgia and Penn State.
DT [player_tooltip player_id="255080" first="Braheem" last="Battles"] (Allentown Central Catholic)
Much like Mathis, Battles as a freshman already has the size of a high school senior, a college freshman defensive tackle at 6-foot-3 and 300-pounds. To go with his size, Battles shows good handwork, a strong punch, and sneaky athleticism and speed. We’re super excited to see how Battles continues to develop and grow his game over his next three high school seasons.
DE [player_tooltip player_id="255079" first="Anthony" last="Borzillo"] (Malvern Prep)
The first thing that stood out for me regarding Borzillo is his length, which as a defensive end will only help him going forward. He shows a good first step and uses his length to his advantage. As he gets bigger, he should turn into quite the dominant defensive end.
DE [player_tooltip player_id="206358" first="Mikale" last="Whitfield"] (Imhotep Charter)
There are not a ton of highlights available for Whitfield but of is available, the tape is solid. Additionally, being able to see time on Imhotep Charter’s varsity team at times despite deep depth at the defensive end position for the Panthers. Personally, I have not been able to see Whitfield play in person but am excited to potentially do so this fall.
DL [player_tooltip player_id="255090" first="Braiden" last="Sudor"] (Bihsop Canevin)
What stands out right away about Sudor is his quick first step and strength as a freshman, we’ll see if he can keep the quickness of his first step as he continues to get bigger. A strong motor, he’s never truly out of any play either. There’s overall a lot to like about Sudor.
DT [player_tooltip player_id="263022" first="Mykell" last="Ford"] (Governor Mifflin)
Ford will be a name to watch as the Governor Mifflin freshman has shown a ton of promise early on. He was productive for the Mustangs this past season and the foundations of being a high quality defensive tackle is certainly there for Ford.
