In the class of 2026, the quarterback list is deep and today we are going to look at some quarterbacks to watch out for in their upcoming freshman season.
Maverick Ashby Maverick Ashby 5'9" | 160 lbs | QB Ashland Middle | 2026 KY | 5-7, 155lbs | Ashland Blazer High School
Maverick has quick field vision when it comes to deciding what to do with the ball. With this, the 8th-grader can take off with his feet towards the end zone. This kid reminds me of a prime Johnny Manziel when it comes to running the ball. Although there is much to be seen when throwing the football, expect to see Maverick throwing darts this upcoming first season at Ashland Blazer.
Mason Griffin Mason Griffin 6'3" | 225 lbs | QB South Laurel | 2026 State KY | 6-0, 165lbs | South Laurel High School
Mason Griffin Mason Griffin 6'3" | 225 lbs | QB South Laurel | 2026 State KY is a hidden treasure and is in the works to become a superior offensive threat. This kid is special when throwing the football as he has a cannon of an arm and can easily throw 30-40 yards in the pocket. What is mind-boggling about his ability to throw the football is that he can throw deep with only 1 step forward to throw to his target. As he is only an 8th-grader, expect Mason to further develop his talent as a quarterback and his ability to read the blitz with ease in his upcoming freshman season.
Maddox O’Neal Maddox O’Neal 6'1" | 175 lbs | QB McCracken County | 2026 State KY | 6-1, 155lbs | Mayfield High School
Maddox is a special type of QB talent. What is astonishing about this kid is that he is incredibly talented at throwing darts to his receivers while running out of the pocket. Along with that, Maddox has an absolute cannon of an arm, and a lot of throws he makes remind me of Patrick Mahomes slinging it to Tyreek Hill every Sunday at Arrowhead. Not only can Maddox throw the ball with extreme accuracy and can throw it at any arm angle, but he can also run out of the pocket with the football when dealt with a blitz. Be ready for opposing defenses to have to take serious caution playing against Maddox during his freshman season at Mayfield High.
Chase Varney Chase Varney 6'2" | 185 lbs | QB Belfry | 2026 State KY | 6-1, 179lbs | Belfry High School
Chase Varney Chase Varney 6'2" | 185 lbs | QB Belfry | 2026 State KY is another special talent who can get the football out of his hands at an incredibly fast speed and into the hands of his intended target. The 8th-grader can throw out of the pocket to find the open man and can also run with the football when countered with a blitz. With Chase already having a remarkable size as a QB in 8th grade, expect him to further develop his overall athleticism and physique when he hits the field at Belfry High this fall.
Colin Daniels Colin Daniels 6'2" | 180 lbs | QB Christian Academy of Louisville | 2026 State KY | 6-2, 180lbs | Christian Academy of Louisville Kentucky
Compared to his other 8th-grade teammates, Colin is a unit when taking the field as he is already over 6ft and 180lbs. When watching his tape, it can be seen that Colin can throw a deep ball with little to no effort with his size, and his deep ball accuracy is top-notch material. A keynote watching Colin is that most of his throws have him resided in the pocket however that does not mean he is not able to run with the football if needed. In fact, expect Colin to further develop his skills running with the football during his freshman season at CAL High School. If he is able to build more talent with his ability to throw the ball and run with the ball, there is no doubt he can be seen as one of the superior quarterbacks in the state of Kentucky in the near future.
