With two powerhouse programs that have produced more than their fair share of collegiate talent in recent years, it came to no surprise that there was an explosive scoring start to the game. Senior WR Kelan Carney Kelan Carney 6'0" | WR Owasso | 2022 State OK himself was responsible for three first half scores for 6A-1’s #1 Owasso. While star senior Talyn Shettron Talyn Shettron 6'3" | WR Edmond Santa Fe | 2022 State OK found the end zone twice for 6A-1’s #4 Edmond Santa Fe. Even with all that offensive firepower, it was Owasso’s defense that swung the game. Edmond Santa Fe was often able to get the ball across the midfield, but repeatedly ran out of downs inside the 30. This allowed Owasso’s offense to confidently string together long drives that padded their lead and made it a comfortable night for the Rams in their 45-22 victory.
Owasso forced a quick punt to start the game, and then quickly marched down the field while showing off their deep offensive arsenal. First it was senior RB Derrick Overstreet Derrick Overstreet 5'7" | RB Owasso | 2022 State OK ripping off chunk plays. Junior QB Austin Havens Austin Havens 6'3" | 205 lbs | QB Bixby | 2023 State OK showed poised against Santa Fe’s pass rush on a crucial third down, finding senior WR JaRay Austin JaRay Austin 5'10" | 165 lbs | WR Owasso | 2022 State OK for a first down that set up the Rams at the Wovles’ 12 yard line. The next play, Carney was wide open in the end zone to open the scoring at 7-0.
OSU commit Talyn Shettron Talyn Shettron 6'3" | WR Edmond Santa Fe | 2022 State OK showed off his playmaking ability with one long catch and run, where he eluded multiple tacklers. And then also burning the defense deep for a 48 yard touchdown, which he followed up with a two point conversion to give the Wolves a 8-7 lead. Once again it was Carney that made the big play for Rams. He snagged a crossing route, broke an arm tackle and jetted to the end zone for a 57 yard score the very next drive to make 15-8 Owasso. Edmond Santa Fe quickly responded as senior LB Reeves juked a defender after a short route and was off to the races but was ruled out at the 1 yard line. Shettron again found the end zone, this time with an Owasso defender draped all over him, he still caught and tied the game again.
With a full home side rocking, Santa Fe looked poised to make it a game. But showing the veteran experience they have across the board, the Rams responded with a long drive, which included multiple first down conversions by junior WR Cole Adams Cole Adams 6'0" | WR Owasso | 2023 State OK . Once they neared the red zone, it was again Carney time. This time he took a WR screen, followed his blocks, eluded another defender and found pay-dirt for the third time and a 22-15 lead.
Owasso’s ballhawking defense forced another punt with 5:28 in the second quarter. And then Cole Adams Cole Adams 6'0" | WR Owasso | 2023 State OK showed why he’s a highly touted recruit. He burned the Wolves’ secondary for 46 yard score and a 29-15 lead with 4:26 left in the first half. From there, Owasso’s defense continued to set the tone. Midway through the third quarter, Santa Fe was once again on the march inside Owasso territory. But junior DB Jake Adams scooped up a fumble to end that threat. And eventually Owasso was able to break through the stingy Santa Fe defense, with a toe tapping 18 yard TD reception from Adams. That made the score 35-15, with 1:03 left in the third. The touchdown was Adams’ second of the night, while that made 5 touchdown passes for Havens.
Even though Derrick Overstreet Derrick Overstreet 5'7" | RB Owasso | 2022 State OK was the grinder for the Rams offense, it was a big play from junior Emery Neeley Emery Neeley 5'11" | RB Owasso | 2023 State OK that capped off the game for the Rams. After the defense once again forced another turnover on downs, Neeley showed off the wheels with a 74 yard TD run. His score was the exclamation point that made it 42-15 with 11:35 left in the game.
Jake Adams got his second turnover of the game, this time picking off an interception over the middle of the field. Shortly after that he added to the advantage himself by kicking a 22 yard field goal, 45-15. Santa Fe’s one second half consolation came in the form of freshman running back Demarius Robinson Demarius Robinson 5'9" | 165 lbs | RB Edmond Santa Fe | 2025 State OK , who was over 100 yards on the night. He finally broke through the Rams’ defense to find the end zone in the final minute of the game. Which lead to the final score of Owasso 45, Edmond Santa Fe 22.

TURNING POINT
It looked like an Owasso miscue would breath life into Santa Fe. A muffed punt set up the Wolves with the ball in Owasso territory and 2:44 left in the first half. Owasso had looked in control of the game with back to back decisive touchdown drives and their defense settling down. The Wolves were unable to cut the deficit to a single score. As they often did, the Rams’ defense made life difficult for Senior QB

as he was pressured into an overthrow on 4th down. This would set the tone for the next frame, as even when Owasso’s defense bent in the second half, they didn’t break. At least till a consolation touchdown in the game’s final minute. Owasso’s high power offense will likely grab headlines all year. But from the tone setters up front with senior DE

It was a tough call between Carney and his signal caller Havens. But number 17 was simply uncoverable from the opening whistle. There was not a single defender near him on his first score. Then on the next one he left defenders in the dust when he turned a routine crossing route into a big play TD. The last one, he again eluded the defense. With his breakaway speed and route running, he made sure to keep six feet between himself and the opposing DB’s as much as possible.

On His Relationship with his talented receiving corps
“It’s very helpful. They’re all super skilled and veteran, they all know the offense well and I’m on the same page with them. I have more timing with my receivers, we’ve been together for a while. And I just have a lot of trust in my offense.”
WHAT’S NEXT
Owasso: vs Fayetteville, September 3rd
The Rams will hope to keep the good times rolling with a home match up. They’ll host Fayetteville for a border war clash. Last year Owasso went across the border for a 31-17 victory. This time around they’ll be hoping to defend home turf and the reputation of Oklahoma High School football against the invading Bulldogs.
Edmond Santa Fe: vs Stillwater, September 3rd
Santa Fe will be looking to right the ship with another home game, this time against 6A-2 Stillwater. Last year the Pioneers won 45-32 over Edmond Santa Fe. The Wolves started slow last season with back to back losses to Owasso and Stillwater. They did reel off 10 straight victories before falling in the State Title game, so an 0-2 hole is manageable. But with freshman Robinson in the backfield, and senior Shettron on the perimeter, the Wolves have the firepower to get into the win column.
