It was a battle of teams ranked #3 in their respective classes as 3A’s #3 Lincoln Christian played host to 2A’s #3 Beggs to open up the 2021 football season. For the second straight year, the Bulldogs began their season with an absolute rout of Beggs, winning on Friday night 52-14. They beat the Golden Demons with ease last year but the 2020 match-up saw Lincoln get out to a fast start and roll from there. Friday night, it was Beggs that struck first but once Lincoln would score once, the floodgates opened.
Lincoln Christian thought they were going to score first when they took the opening kickoff back to the Beggs 14-yard line. However, they would go three and out and then miss a 25-yard field goal to the right. Three plays later, Beggs would score on a Red Martel Red Martel 5'11" | 195 lbs | RB Beggs | 2024 State OK 54-yard touchdown run. The dynamic 2024 running back bounced an inside run to the outside and was off to the races and nobody from Lincoln could catch up. Beggs would lead 6-0 after the first quarter but those floodgates began to open. Lincoln would score their first touchdown on a 50-yard pass from senior quarterback Max Brown Max Brown 6'2" | 200 lbs | QB Lincoln Christian | 2022 State OK to wide receiver Dylan Baldridge. That would be the first of eight consecutive possessions that ended with Lincoln Christian points.
On their next possession, Brown had a 62-yard touchdown run that was negated by a face mask penalty. However, a few plays later, running back Easton Rogers Easton Rogers 6'3" | 210 lbs | ATH Lincoln Christian | 2023 State OK plunged into the end zone from a yard out to give Lincoln the 14-6 lead. Rogers would finish with 57 yards on 14 carries for the Bulldogs. Lincoln would then showcase their skills in the two-minute drill and executed it to perfection. At the end of it, Brown found newcomer Cam Dooley Cam Dooley 6'1" | 185 lbs | WR Lincoln Christian | 2023 State OK in the end zone for a 33-yard touchdown to give the Bulldogs a 21-6 advantage going into halftime.
The second half picked up where Lincoln left off in the first half. Beggs had the ball near midfield but would fumble it away. Lincoln would capitalize with a Drew Lancaster field goal from 32-yards out. After another Beggs three and out, Brown would put on a clinic throwing and running the ball. It would end in a 5-yard touchdown run. Beggs fumbled on their next possession and Brown would find Baldridge again, this time on a 26-yard touchdown late in the third quarter. Another Beggs fumble early in the fourth quarter led to Brown’s final touchdown of the night when it came on a 39-yarder on fourth down. Lincoln’s backup offense would get in on the scoring as sophomore quarterback Luke Milligan Luke Milligan 6'2" | 185 lbs | QB Lincoln Christian | 2024 State OK found Josiah Loftis on a 25-yard touchdown.
Beggs would add a fourth quarter touchdown as quarterback Ayden Hamilton scored from 12-yards out on a playaction quarterback keeper.

TURNING POINT
Halfway through the second quarter, the game completely change and really began the Lincoln Christian rout. The Bulldogs had just scored to go up 7-6. Beggs would respond by going three and out and would have to punt the ball away. That would be the first of six consecutive possessions for the Golden Demons that would either end in a three and out or a turnover. Meanwhile, Lincoln Christian had a stretch of eight consecutive possessions where they would put points up on the board. After a very tight first quarter, Beggs just appeared tired in the second period and Lincoln sensed it. The Bulldogs would do the majority of their damage in the second and third quarters, outscoring Beggs 38-0.

absolutely dominated this game and was a big reason why the Bulldogs had their stretch of eight straight possessions ending in points. Brown threw for 184 yards and three touchdowns on 14-17 passing. He also added 159 yards and a pair of touchdowns on 20 carries. Brown threw an incompletion on his first pass of the game and then didn’t miss for the rest of the first half. He finished the first half 9-10 for over 100 yards and two touchdowns. Brown was also dynamic in the run game. His final touchdown of the night came on a 36-yard run where he broke a tackle at the 15-yard line and then spun a Beggs defender out of his cleats and walked into the end zone. Brown was outstanding and this sets up a big match-up next week between two of the best 2022 QB’s in the state.

On His Offense When It Got Clicking
“We weathered the storm coming out of that first quarter. We just kept the momentum going building off of our defense and we connected a few times on offense and it kept flowing from there. We just needed to get started and then we started connecting. I’m so proud of my boys, they showed a lot tonight, a lot of toughness and we’ll just build off this momentum.”
WHAT’S NEXT
Beggs: Rejoice Christian – September 3rd
Things won’t be getting easier for Beggs as they will return home next week for the home opener against Rejoice Christian. And just incase Rejoice didn’t have Beggs’ attention, they certainly will now. The Eagles went on the road and knocked off defending Class A state champion Cashion in one of the bigger upsets of week zero. Rejoice may end up finding themselves in the updated Class 2A rankings on Saturday and would give Beggs a second straight game against a ranked opponent. They’ll go from one good quarterback to another as Rejoice’s
