Here in the month of June we’re updating all of our prospect rankings as the 2021 season gets closer and closer. For the 2023 class, we went from a Top 50 to a Top 100 as this class continues to get deeper and deeper. The margin between the ranked players is very close and this class has a chance to be fairly deep from top to bottom. You can check out the Top 100 Right Here. Throughout the week, we’ll be adding some analysis on the players that have stood out in the 2023 class with positional breakdowns, newcomers and even prospects on the border of being ranked this time around. Stay tuned for next week when we update the state’s 2022 class. For now, we take an in-depth look at five defensive linemen who stood out to us during this last ranking update.

– Union (Ranked 11th Overall)
The 2020 season for Union has been well documented and they finished it off way better than they started. However, they saw plenty of reasons for hope going into 2021. They had such a young and talented core and leading the way on the defensive side of the ball was

. The Union big man is an absolute force on the line of scrimmage and we were very excited to see him up close during spring ball and team camps. However, we saw something that made us even more excited about his potential when we checked them out. Thomas was taking plenty of reps on the offensive line as a guard. In addition to his work on the defensive line, he was helping out a very talented offensive line group, making them even stronger. We still like Thomas on the defensive side of the ball with this recent ranking update but we acknowledge that he has more versatility, which has made him a borderline top ten prospect.

was one of the earliest 2023 prospects in Oklahoma to pick up attention from colleges. Even before his sophomore season, Foreman had earned a few offers and he’s been a Top 15 prospect ever since the rankings began for the 2023 class. Foreman and 2024 defensive lineman

will combine for arguably the best 1-2 punch along the defensive line in the state. Foreman is incredibly athletic and he uses a great blend of speed and strength to beat up opposing offensive linemen. Foreman continues to improve his game and has had a strong spring and early part of summer with competing in camps against other top talent. It was no doubt a down year for Del City last year and the Eagles are hungry to not only turn things around, but to get back to contending for deep playoff trips. With the defense being led by Foreman and Stone, they’ll have a pretty strong unit on that side of the ball. If Foreman can continue to improve, he’ll have an opportunity to jump into the top ten.

enjoyed a breakout season last year as a sophomore defensive lineman. Here’s the biggest key with Tiger and what he’ll end up being as an overall recruit. he’s short. Tiger is one of the smaller defensive linemen in the recent ranking update, especially when it comes to defensive tackles. However, if you’ve had the chance to see Tiger, especially in person, you’ll see the same thing that we’ve seen and that’s Tiger becoming an absolute force up front and having no problem causing havoc and getting into the backfield. Tiger was at his best when he was shutting down the run for opponents. He also had the ability to get into the backfield and run down the quarterback. Despite the size questions, opponents still had to focus their attention on Tiger and would sometimes hit him with a double team to try and just slow him down.

. As we went into the 2020 season, Andrews was a player that we had circled as a potential breakout player. However, before the season could really get rolling, Andrews had to shut things down and missed the majority of his sophomore season with an injury. Now fast forward to today and Andrews is ready to go and ready to make an impact for Norman North in 2021. Andrews has been rated in the past as an athlete as he has the ability to play on both sides of the ball. However, when we look at his game and size, the defensive side of the ball looks like the best bet with him lining up as a defensive lineman. After missing the majority of his season last year, Andrews has to be hungry to make a massive impact for the T’Wolf defense in 2021 and they could turn into a serious contender.

– Owasso (Ranked 50th Overall)
In the very first game of the 2020 season, Owasso absolutely dominated Edmond Santa Fe. One of the standouts on the defensive side of the ball was a young defensive tackle who was making play after play and more importantly, stop after stop. Rich is also a standout on the wrestling mat and that clearly helps him when it comes to his play on the gridiron. Rich and the Owasso front seven will be one of the best units in the state and Rich will certainly benefit from playing with such a competitive group along the defensive line.
