Cartwright had a couple of extremely good moments.
To start off, Cartwright has great size for a high school 5-tech. In college, I could easily see him transitioning to 3-tech.
Cartwright earned a few trips into the Brother Rice backfield, and subsequently earned a few TFL and quarterback pressures. Cartwright looked great when the initial block shed attempt was successful. There were other times when Cartwright got moved off the ball, and I think a more explosive getoff would do him wonders. Brother Rice did a great job mixing up the snap count, and it looked to get the DLS D-Line a little off-schedule.
Another DLS prospect who I think has a D2 floor. With a good offseason, Cartwright has got to be a MAC prospect.

- Looked quick and had good bend during positional drills
- Real good size. 6’4″ 240 seems accurate
- Great job at keeping feet moving upfield
- Tends to lean a little too far forward, lose a little balance, and steps into blocks rather than avoiding them
- Like some other D-Linemen, William should develop one or two go-to moves and perfect those

Cartwright is a player I’m ranking largely based on potential. I like his JV tape quite a bit, and he has the size plus coaching to develop into a D2 prospect at the very least. Cartwright seems to have pretty good bend, and I like his getoff. The biggest thing for Cartwright is to keep his foot on the gas. Now is probably the most consequential offseason of his high school career. Excited to see Cartwright meet my expectations and be a good varsity player next season.

There’s plenty of reason to believe that Cartwright could be a great Varsity contributor next season. Watching a few highlights from his JV games this season, it’s apparent to me that Will is still a raw prospect.
First off, Will is built very well. His 6’3″ 215lb frame is quite good for a high school defensive end, thus, he has a pretty high ceiling.
As for skill, Will is able to consistently win against JV tackles, but he’s just a step too slow and doesn’t yet have a go-to rush move. He’s tried a push-pull, swim, and others, but all of his rush moves are currently underdeveloped.
Work hard in the weight room while developing 1-2 great rush moves, and we’ll see a great 2025 Varsity season from Will.
