While there’s a lot of potential and young talent on this team, they aren’t lacking experience. Senior linebacker Will Spears Will Spears 6'0" | LB McAlester | 2025 State OK returns to the Buffaloes and we mentioned earlier in the preview how we really like this linebacker group that McAlester brings back. Spears is a big reason why. He led the team in tackles last season with well over 100 on the season. In fact, he was 40 tackles ahead of the second-leading tackler on the team. Spears was an absolute game-wrecker from his linebacker position and we really like the physicality he plays the game with. And like we said before, when McAlester’s defense has been good, it’s been led by the linebacker group.

McAlester 2025 linebacker Will Spears Will Spears 6'0" | LB McAlester | 2025 State OK is going to lead a McAlester defense that is ready to return to what we saw from that unit in 2021. That defense was absolutely dominant and was led by a stout linebacker that led the team in tackles. That’s the recipe for success for the Buffaloes and Spears could certainly fill that role for McAlester this season. Spears led McAlester in tackles last season with nearly 100 on the year and it’s hard not to anticipate that he’s going to take that to another level this season. He’s leading a defensive unit that is incredibly talented and experienced and while some of the new faces on offense come along, Spears and the defense is going to be able to carry this team early on in the season.

While Baugh is replacing the production of McCarty on offense, others have had to step up to replace his production on defense. He was McAlester’s leading tackler earlier this year. But now it’s sophomore linebacker Will Spears Will Spears 6'0" | LB McAlester | 2025 State OK . With nearly 100 tackles, Spears will be a big part of McAlester’s front seven as they try to attempt to slow down Carl Albert’s power running game. That’s going to be arguably the biggest key to Saturday’s game. If Spears and the Buffaloes are able to slow down Carl Albert’s star junior running back, they’ll have a shot to pull off the win and capture that state championship. In addition to leading the team in tackles, Spears is also top five on the team in tackles for loss. McAlester’s tackling in the open field is going to play a big part in the outcome of Saturday’s game.
