On defense, Cotton lines up at safety where he is very reliable in pass coverage. He does a great job of reading the quarterback and breaking on the ball with perfect timing to make a play. Cotton finished this past season with one interception and multiple pass breakups in eight games. He has also shown the ability to fill the lane to stop the run, finishing this past season with 42 tackles and three tackles for loss. Trey also played a key role on offense this past season, catching 15 passes for 226 yards and a touchdown. Cotton currently holds offers from Eastern Kentucky, Lindenwood, Austin Peay, Southeast Missouri State, Eastern Illinois, and UT Martin, and I expect more to come his way as he is a Division I caliber prospect.

He also has shown the ability to use his athleticism to go up and catch passes at their highest point, making him a very reliable jump ball and contested catch target. On defense, Cotton is a very reliable safety. He has shown the ability to sit back in the secondary and read the quarterback, breaking on the ball with perfect timing to make a play. Cotton finished his sophomore  year with four interceptions and returned one for a touchdown. He has also proven to be reliable against the run, showing the ability to fill the lane and make tackles in the open field. He lived up to those expectations, earning himself the wide receiver MVP award. Cotton was very impressive in both position drills and in 1v1 competition. He showed very impressive route running skills, showing the ability to easily create separation from defensive backs. Cotton also showed the speed to blow by defenders and the ability to go up and catch passes at their highest point. While he already holds an offer from Eastern Kentucky, I expect more to come his way as he is a true Division I caliber receiver.

Trey took home the Kentucky Prospect Tour’s wide receiver MVP and there are certainly great reasons for it. The 2025 receiver prospect inherited the best lateral movements & sharp jabs when route-running at the camp. His top-tier footwork and quick acceleration enable him to make sharp & effective jabs to easily create separation off the opposing DBs for easy receptions. When on deep routes, Cotton’s athleticism takes over as his high leaping ability and eye coordination help him smoothly grab the ball despite lots of contact from surrounding defenders. Along with his eye coordination is his footwork coordination when understanding where he needs to plant his foot when receiving passes with narrow ground. Even with the most difficult passes thrown to Cotton off 1v1 drills, he made all these receptions look much easier than they were. As a 2025 grad at the Christian Academy of Louisville, there is still a lot left in the tank for the young man. Trey’s future football career will continue to shine as he further develops into an elite receiver prospect.
