He is coming off a strong junior season in which he caught 60 passes for 1,014 yards and 14 touchdowns in 15 games. Howard lines up mainly in the slot where he is able to use his explosive speed to his advantage to blow by opposing defensive backs with ease. He has also impressed as a route runner, using smooth breaks in his routes to create separation. Gaines also scored one rushing touchdown as a junior and made an impact on defense, recording 27 tackles and three interceptions (tied for team lead). Howard is a player who I expect a lot of college coaches to have on their radar this season.

He’s used a lot in the quick game, lining up in the slot for quick-hitters or running in motion on certain designed plays. Howard is also a vertical threat despite only standing 5’9″. He’s a playmaker with the ball in his hands. He makes hard cuts and takes long strides, which helps him beat defenders one-on-one and along the outside. Howard also demonstrated patience when following his blocks and vision while maneuvering himself around the opposing defense.

Howard had an outstanding junior season, catching 60 passes for 1,014 yards and 14 touchdowns in 15 games. He is a skilled route runner, using smooth breaks in his routes to create separation with ease. Howard also has explosive speed which he uses to blow by opposing defensive backs in the deep passing game and to pick up yards after the catch. Gaines also scored one rushing touchdown as a junior and made an impact on defense, recording 27 tackles and three interceptions (tied for team lead). I expect a lot of eyes to be on Howard heading into his senior year.

Howard lines up in the slot where he uses his speed to blow by opposing defensive backs with ease to create separation. He is also dangerous after the catch, using his speed and elusiveness in the open field to turn short passes into big gains at any given moment. Howard doesn’t currently hold any offers but he will definitely be a player to keep an eye on over the next two seasons.
