Expert Analysis
Eliot Clough | Prep Redzone Scout
The biggest offensive lineman on the Gilbert OL, Trent Wesselman immediately pops as a Division I-caliber tackle. Holding down the right tackle spot for the Tigers, Wesselman is physically imposing, immediately catching the eye of opposing defenses.
If his size doesn’t jump out right away, his play does. A mean blocker that will take an opposing defensive lineman completely out of the play by pushing them to the sideline, as far away from the ball as possible or into the dirt, Wesselman plays the game with no mercy.
Already holding offers from South Dakota, Lindenwood and Western Illinois, Wesselman just recently added an offer from Northern Iowa on April 25.

Prep Redzone Iowa last wrote about Wesselmann last year, when he was coming off a memorable sophomore campaign at Gilbert. We decided to check in for an update on what Wesselmann accomplished as an 11th-grader, which he showed during his highlight video. He managed 4.5 tackles, three of which were solo stops, and recovered a fumble. Wesselmann’s greatest impact occurred on the offensive front, however. The film opens with him pancaking the opponent and continues with him handing them out like iHop. Wesslemann succeeds with strength and power, but he’s also agile and moves well for the big guy. His hands are very active and longer arms help him control the defensive lineman in pass protection. Wesselmann operates with balance and slick feet.

Wesselmann chipped in a couple of solo tackles on defense, but did most of his work on an offense that ranked fifth overall in the state with 3,719 rushing yards. As we can witness during his sophomore highlight video, Wesselmann handled his business like a veteran up front. It earned him all-district honors. He stands out for his athleticism and agility. With a frame that looks like it can comfortably fill out more without the loss of those traits, Wesselmann also has a high ceiling to go with current production. Wesselmann moves well and appears technically sound with room for growth there as well.
