A successful wrestler, Koerner flashed potential on the gridiron in 2025. The sophomore backed up a pair of seniors at quarterback for a Gilbert outfit that struggled to throw the ball. He completed both of his passes for 18 yards and rushed for 63 yards (5.7 YPC) and two touchdowns. Koerner also spent time developing on the non-varsity level and should be in position to compete for QB1 this fall. Based on his 10th-grade highlights, he has the tools that lead to success at the position. The first clip shows him rolling to his right, his strong side, and delivering a perfectly thrown ball down field for a touchdown. Koerner proves his dual-threat ability on Clip 2, when he rips off a long gainer on a designed quarterback run. He looked like a running back or receiver, which is a good thing. We see more of that throughout the film as well as arm talent to dice up defenses. The Gilbert QB competition will be one to watch this August. Koerner will have a say in it.
