One of the better uncommitted 2026s left in Iowa, Montgomery impressed me with his broad skill set during an in-person scout early in the 2025 season. His athleticism and physicality stood out during a matchup with North Scott. Montgomery looked slick carrying the ball and catching it on offense. Defensively, he’s an aggressive linebacker that gets downhill in a hurry but also moves well sideline to sideline. While a future as a every-down running back might be the vision for some schools on the next level, delivering as a playmaking linebacker seems a more likely path for success.

Certainly the most vocal player for the Warriors, Montgomery looked as though he had to fight back to the urge to hit somebody on every 11-on-11 defensive install rep last week. A walking ball of aggression, Montgomery will be one of the leading tacklers for Washington, and he’ll look to make some big plays on the defensive side of the ball like he did last season. In 2024, Montgomery finished third on the team in sacks (4.5) and fifth in tackles-for-loss (6.5). He’s the leading returner in both categories going into this season.
Montgomery will once again contribute offensively both through the air and on the ground, as he contributed 102 yards and a touchdown rushing and 15 catches for 134 yards and a score last season.

Montgomery is an intriguing prospect that some college coaches might prefer on offense. He returned a kick 60 yards, rushed for a touchdown and caught a score last season. His athleticism and skill set might work best on defense, however, where he totaled 24.0 tackles (16 solo, 6.5 TFL) and 4.5 sacks. When watching Montgomery’s junior highlight video, we notice a well-rounded football player that contributes to his team’s cause all over the field. He’s physical and fast with solid fundamentals.

The 6-foot-2, 205-pound Montgomery revealed his athleticism by returning seven kicks and punting once as a sophomore while mostly playing linebacker. You don’t see that a lot. He totaled 12 solo tackles, 3.0 stops for loss and a sack as a 10th-grader. During his most recent highlight video, Montgomery proves to be a violent tackler with noticeable strength for his age. His frame looks like it can add good weight that won’t impact the high-end athleticism with which he plays the position.
