is easily one of the top specialists Iowa has to offer. The kicker and punter for Cedar Rapids Washington, Barton has heard from a barrage of Division I schools through his recruiting process, and it’s only a matter of time before a program decides to offer him a walk-on spot. A powerful leg that forced a touchback on all 38 of his kickoffs, along with averaging 39.1 yards per punt this fall, Barton’s ceiling is high. Assuming he continues to grow in height and weight, he’ll be a great fit at the next level with the right weight training and coaching.

Barton, a First Team All-State Selection, had a monster year. He had 38 touchbacks on 42 kickoffs. His film was impressive, with the ball regularly landing 5-10 yards behind the backline of the endzone on his kickoffs. He was 4/10 on field goals with a long of 37 and 28/29 on PATs. His leg strength on kick-offs is one of the best I have seen in a long time and will have an impact on the next level.

I remember being impressed with Barton’s sophomore film when reviewing it this past offseason. I left an in-person scout in Week 2 of the 2025 season with an even greater appreciation of his current ability and potential for more. Barton showed plenty of leg booting a 35-yard field goal against North Scott. He came up just short on 45-ish-yard attempt at the end of the first half on a play that didn’t see him hit the ball as squarely as he would have liked. Again, with further development, the consistency will come. Barton also looked like a punting prospect, especially at school that would like to have a guy with the versatility to cover multiple special team’s assignments.

Rarely headliners for the high school football team, Barton may just be that this and next season for Washington. One of the most well-known specialists in the state of Iowa going into the season, Barton made a field goal of 48 yards last season, was 18-of-23 on PATs, registered 28 touchbacks on 33 kickoffs and averaged 40 yards per punt on 37 punts last season.
Barton has received interest from Iowa and Wyoming as of recently, and his recruitment will grow as he gets closer to graduation.

Barton’s production matches up with anybody in the state, regardless of class or grade. The Warrior specialist recorded 26 touchdowns on 33 kickoffs and hit a 48-yard field goal, both illustrating his leg strength. Barton connected on six field goals and averaged 39.9 yards on 37 punts. During his sophomore highlight video from 2024, Barton impresses. His 48-yarder would have been good from 55. Barton brings plenty of punch to his field-goal attempts. He’s also a well-rounded punter that achieves hangtime and excels at directional kicks.

made significant progress after a rough freshman campaign, and he is quickly developing into a dangerous kicking specialist for Cedar Rapids Washington. Barton finished last season with an average of 39.9 yards per punt on 37 punts. Barton also finished 6 of 10 on field goals and 18 of 23 on extra points. Barton does a great job at angling his kicks, nailing an impressive amount of depth and hang-time on his kicks that make it difficult for the returners to catch, and he’s shown great improvement on his accuracy. Barton should quickly find himself on the watchlist in 2025 as a top overall kicking specialist in Iowa.
