Expert Analysis
Matt Tate | Prep Redzone Scout
Shaw is a versatile defensive back who can line up as a corner, safety, or linebacker. He measures in at 5’10 180 pounds. Shaw has very good athletic ability due to elite acceleration, very good speed, jumping, and change of direction. Shaw’s hips are very fluid, allowing him to change angles on the fly. He will mirror the DB, and stick to them like glue, especially in man coverage. Shaw is good in zone coverage, locking it down. One aspect of his game that impressed me was his ability to stop the run. He tackles towards the ball carrier’s center of gravity, stopping them in their tracks. He was consistently assisting his teammates in tackles as well. Shaw is a hard-hitting DB, lowering his shoulder and laying the boom, causing fumbles or incompletions. Shaw’s versatility should bring him up recruiting boards, as he has multiple traits needed to excel at different positions.

Shaw is an interesting prospect who has shown he possesses the potential to be looked at as a possible recruit for the hybrid DB/OLB role for a program looking to add depth to its dominant defense. He is listed as a safety, but he has the skills needed to line up as a cornerback and use impressive awareness to play in coverage. Shaw has the frame and physicality that could make him a viable option for multiple positions within a defense, which is what makes him a player worthy of interest from college programs in need of a plug-and-play athlete.
