is a quarterback that has been high on my radar for a while now and continued to stand out this past season. He had a solid junior year, completing 149/223 passes for 2,051 yards, 19 touchdowns, and 10 interceptions in 12 games. Holbrook throws a very impressive deep ball, showing the arm strength to stretch the field and touch to put the ball where only his intended receiver can catch it. He is also dangerous with his legs, finishing this past season as his team’s leading rusher with 144 carries for 614 yards and 11 touchdowns. Rhett has started to take some visits to college programs and I can see an offer coming his way going into his senior year.

Now in his third season as the Lions’ starting quarterback, Holbrook is exhibiting the developing vision, timing and accuracy to exploit all potential routes in the passing tree, and his ability to make plays with his legs drastically limits how opposing defenses can play him. In Boyd County’s 48-14 win over Greenup County, he completed 14 of 18 pass attempts for 229 yard and 3 touchdowns and added on 72 yards rushing and a fourth score on 9 carries. Currently averaging 250.7 total yards per game, he ranks 10th among Class AAAA passers with 79 completions on 110 attempts for 1,044 yards and 12 touchdowns while also ranking 22nd among all Class AAAA rushers with 460 yards and 8 touchdowns on 74 carries. On schedule to surpass 2,000 yards of total offense for the second consecutive season, Holbrook’s extensive experience, skill set and athleticism will continue to attract increasing next-level interest as his developmental trajectory continues to climb.

While an outlier on this list as a quarterback, Holbrook’s ability to exploit defenses with his legs certainly warrants his inclusion here, and in his Lions’ eye-opening 45-21 win at Mason County in Week 3, he firmly established his status as one of this state’s top dual-threat signal callers. In addition to 18 rushes for 145 yards and 3 touchdowns on the ground, he also connected on 16 of 23 pass attempts for 159 yards and 2 more scores. With the ability to move around in the pocket and the athleticism to make defenders miss in open space, he has rushed for 388 yards and 7 touchdowns so far this season while averaging 6.7 yards per carry. A tall, accurate passer with the arm mechanics and quick release needed to stretch the field, he has completed 55 of 75 pass attempts for 631 yards and 7 touchdowns this season and currently averages 254.8 yards of total offense per game.
