I don’t expect Payton to be Mona Shores’ QB1 until at least 2026, but his tape is intriguing enough for me to have an eye on him. For one, his footwork is more advanced than most Class of 2028 prospects. Also, his throwing motion is pretty wonky, but I like the velocity he puts behind his throws.
I don’t want to nitpick too much because the fact is he’s still a freshman and still has plenty of time to improve. Payton is way ahead of the curve, and I hope to see consistent improvement in his journey to Mona Shores’ QB1.
