This is an absolute baller at the TE position! The 2nd ranked TE on our side for a reason, the Eastern Michigan commit put himself on the map early and often. When I got to see him, he took a simple out route for a first down, and ended up hurdling a defender! Despite the flag, it set the tone and put me on notice right off the bat. He looks in every pass, does a great job of turning up and ripping through arm tackles of smaller and weaker DBs. Payton is going to thrive at EMU and I am looking forward to seeing it.

Payton is a prospect that I knew little about until very recently. Payton could be argued as being a receiver, but he has high upside at both positions. Regardless of position, Payton is a physical player who runs crisp routes, has a great catch radius, ideal size, and has a very high ceiling. Although he doesn’t line up in-line, Payton has several dominant blocking highlights. He uses his power and size to lock onto and outmuscle several DBs, sometimes leading to pancakes. As a receiver, Payton has solid hands, can climb the ladder when needed, and is great after the catch. I especially like the work he does in the middle of the field, where most Tight Ends love to eat. Payton projects incredibly well to the next level, and wherever he lands, I expect great development.
