2027 Player Rankings Update: Newly Ranked Watchlisters, Part VI
I know my blind spots and South Jersey is one of them. However, my time covering Jersey football...
As a blitzer, he’s elite. His first step is explosive. He bends well, slips blocks, and creates havoc. Few defenders in South Jersey rush the passer as he does. That production showed up all season — 14 sacks, 15 tackles for loss, and Atlantic City Press Defensive Player of the Year.
Kelly also adds value beyond pressure. He spot-drops in coverage, reads the quarterback, and makes plays on the ball when asked. On special teams, he’s a game-changer. Four blocked punts, including one returned for a touchdown, underline his impact.
He’s already a difference-maker in the box and on special teams. If Kelly continues to expand his coverage ability this offseason, his recruitment has a real chance to take off.
The more and more I cover Atlantic City football, the more and more I realize they are an emerging hotbed of talent at the skill positions. Add defensive back Omar KellyOmarKelly

to that ever-growing list. As a rolled down safety he has an aggressive nature where his first step seems to be forward. That aggression translates to him looking to pick off crossers, laying the hit stick whenever he can. The clearest showing of Kelly’s speed is on punt block, where we see a distinct burst off the edge. I like how Kelly sees and flies without hesitation, using his speed and body to be the “unstoppable force” in the equation. This force allows him to hawk defenders who get over the top and fill the alley – always with appropriate run fits – with purpose.
I know my blind spots and South Jersey is one of them. However, my time covering Jersey football I have come to realize that Atlantic City has some freaky-type athletes. Add Omar KellyOmarKelly

‘s name to that list. Kelly, a defensive back, has been shown to roll down as a safety and disrupt things that way. Although his first step tends to be forward-to-a-hop rather than dropping, he is instinctual and physical, often laying the boom to crossers off the middle. His twitchiness is on display when coming off the edge – especially when called to block a punt. An aggressive player, we see him fly and go nuts all over the field. He wraps low well, particularly below the knees, while keeping his leverage to force/box things back to linebacker help. Blessed with speed, he absolutely can hawk someone down even if they manage to get past him. A very raw talent, Kelly does a break job of breaking on crossers and looks to use his hands to break things up.
