One of the top defensive backs in the state is Jarrod Barnes II Jarrod Barnes II NJ . Playing in the star position in space, Barnes has the ability to still effectively fit the B gap in his run fit, making plays in the process. This ability to fill gaps outside-in make him an exceptionally disciplined run defender, as Barnes does not over-pursue nor over play the runner. I thought that he also did a great job of eyeing the quarterback and breaks when his arm does, intercepting many passes. Perhaps Barnes’ most impressive attribute is his elite closing speed. This athletic ability also shows up as twitchiness when he changes direction. As a tackler, although he can stand to wrap a bit better, we see him lead with his shoulder. A very well coached defensive back, Barnes is raw and athletic. I wish to see him be more physical when walked up at the line of scrimmage and show clips of him covering deep on film.

Jarrod Barnes II Jarrod Barnes II NJ might be young, but his upside is massive. The South Jersey edge rusher flashes rare explosiveness off the line and already shows natural feel as a run defender. At 6’3” and still growing into his frame, Barnes uses his length well and plays with active, silent hands to shed blockers. The tape may be limited, but the flashes are loud. Once he expands his pass-rush arsenal and sharpens his technique, Barnes is going to be a nightmare for offensive tackles. Expect a breakout year from one of the most intriguing edge prospects in South Jersey.
