I recently covered Michael in a mid-season highlight review, and seeing him live showed the mismatch he is at WR. Albemarle covered him with a tall and athletic CB, but Michael was able to consistently gain separation. He ended the day with two long TD catches. On run plays, he puts effort in to blocking for his teammates every time, proving he’s willing to put the work in to earn his spot on the field.

If you are looking for a big receiver, Michael may be your guy. His size makes him a mismatch versus any DB, and he knows how to position himself to create separation and can jump to high point the ball above anyone on the field. He excels in deep Seam and Fade routes, but he also shows he can run good hitch and comeback routes, in addition to taking a quick smoke screen and turn upfield. He is also showing his willingness and ability to block downfield for his teammates at the WR position.

Receiver Michael Zaney Michael Zaney 6'5" | 205 lbs | WR Monticello | 2025 State VA is the big play threat the Mustangs need and he is progressing at a rapid pace. 6’5 with good athleticism, Zaney is still learning the game as he has been a basketball star at Monticello prior. Look for his senior year to get him attention from colleges for both sports, he could have a great year. Add in the fact that his 205 lbs. of muscle and bolsters a 3.9 GPA, time for schools to take notice.

Michael looks to have a big season this year for Monticello. I was introduced to him at the Central VA Combine this summer, and he impressed me with his size and athletic ability. This fall will be his second season playing organized football so it is understandable that he does not have an offer yet, but I expect he will earn one this fall. He is a part of a great core of seniors Monticello will display this fall that you do not want to miss.

I was not aware of Michael Zaney Michael Zaney 6'5" | 205 lbs | WR Monticello | 2025 State VA before the combine, but his height and testing numbers stuck out early at the event. This fall will only be his second season playing football so there is honing to do in his technique, but the upside is there. He displays the athletic tools desired, and I believe he has the upside to run the full route tree. College coaches at the combine were keeping an eye on him the entire time. He is one to watch this fall as he continues to develop his game.
