Expert Analysis

A coverage LB with very good height and solid size and frame. Good athletic ability with good explosiveness, flexibility, balance, acceleration, foot quickness, lateral agility, change of direction, hip fluidity, hand quickness, and solid foot speed. Good zone coverage showing good zone processing and awareness of the WR routes and the QB’s eyes. Solid range in coverage to cover hash-to-hash. Good ability to jump routes to disrupt the passing lane. Shows good ball skills and the ability to catch the ball outside his frame to make an interception or to deflect the pass. Can man coverage versus TEs and RBs out of the backfield. Solid versus the run, with good balance and explosiveness at the point of attack when filling his gap. Shows a good shoulder dip to create a small target for offensive linemen, allowing him to use his quickness to bypass their blocks with good flexibility and balance. A physically tough player who can take on contact consistently and continue to play at a high level. In 9 games he had 74 tackles, 37solo, 13 tackles for loss, 3 interceptions (plus one 96-yard pick 6 called back), and 1 blocked punt. Also played TE on offense. Overall, a solid player that you can play in a pass coverage role who will also be dependable against the run. Will be successful at a DII or DIII program, and may produce some low-level Division I interest as well.

A receiving TD and a fumble recovery are the stats that stand out from D’rhon’s game, but his consistency and leadership are what sticks out. He is coachable during the game and applies the coaching points given on the sideline. He also affected a punt that I could not tell if he got a piece of it or not, but nonetheless, his pressure forced a bad punt to give Monticello great field position. Monticello’s senior LB and TE is one you don’t want to miss.

D’rhon is looking good in his mid-season highlights. Linebacker play is sticking out with his pass coverage, showing good zone processing and ball skills. He is also quick to come down hill to fill his gap. His range to cover the field is also sticking out as he is able to come from the backside and make the tackle on plays ran away from him. On offense, he continues to prove himself to be a dependable receiver out of his tight end position, often finding himself open in the middle of the field crossing routes.

This was the first time I was able to see D’rhon in person and he did not disappoint. He was voted a team captain last year as a junior and it was obvious to see why. He has a strong work ethic that motivates everyone around him. He plays LB on defense and TE on offense who can also play in the hybrid H-Back role. We believe he can play at the FCS level, and he just received his first offer from Hampton-Sydney.

I have been high on D’rhon for a while, and he is my second honorable mention. He is physical and versatile as a Tight End who can line up tight, split out, and in the backfield. He fits that modern mold of Tight End many teams have started to utilize. But do not sleep on his linebacker film either. Be sure to view his profile and my previous article for a full evaluation of his tape.

What jumps out quickly in D’rhon’s film is the physicality he plays with. Officially he is a Linebacker and a Tight End on his team, but he lines up at tight end, split end, and in the backfield for Monticello’s offense, in addition to contributing on special teams.
Overall he is a solid athlete with solid foot speed, foot quickness, and change of direction. He has good reaction, lateral agility and is a disciplined player on defense. When it comes to pass rush and evading blocks, he has a natural shoulder dip and that makes himself a small target that blockers struggle to get hands on. He is a good tackler with good finish on they play, tackling through the ball carrier.
Playing Tight End, he has good reaction to the snap out of both two and three point stances. His route running sticks out more than his blocking. He wins his routes with physicality. He has good adjustment to balls thrown above and behind his frame and has good hands and hand-eye coordination. After the catch, he runs with good physical toughness and utilizes a stiff arm in addition to lowering his shoulder to fight for extra yards.
