Amir Haskett and Donte London will no longer be suiting up for Coatesville, as both fantastic prospects have moved on to the next-level football or have transferred out. Obviously, the likes of Armon Richardson and the aforementioned duo no longer providing production will be felt on both sides of the ball. What’s good, Coatesville will be returning Matt Ortega Jr. Matt Ortega Jr. 5'9" | 170 lbs | QB Coatesville | 2026 State PA for what will be his junior season. Small stature, big arm. An arm good enough to lead this team to a Conference title. The supporting cast will definitely look different, yet having the same voice in the huddle calling plays should alleviate some of the year-to-year roster turnover. Ortega is capable of out-pacing his sophomore numbers. 1,400 passing yards, 18 scores to his name, 2nd-Team All-Conference honors. Ortega Jr. scans the field like a seasoned vet. Spreading out his targets and operating in five-wide sets out of shotgun should have the junior in a comfortable setting. Don’t be surprised to see Ortega use his legs to extend plays or run for first downs. A ton of downfield production, I am excited to see if Ortega is forced to pull balls down and keep things under 20 yards. Can he still flourish if his targets aren’t burning DBs left and right? I think he can and will.

Matt Ortega, I saw him throw at the Prep Redzone Showcase and came away impressed with his ability to throw. Then I went back and watched his film. I was very excited to watch him play and I came away very impressed. Ortega is a gamer at quarterback. He makes a ton of plays inside and outside of the pocket. Inside the pocket, he shows good mechanics and footwork. He also does a nice job of reading the defense and finding the open receiver based on what the defense gives him. Outside the pocket, he does an excellent job of scrambling around to find open receivers. Ortega is a talented and underrated prospect.

The youngest of the Ortega dynasty Coatesville product Matt Ortega Jr. Matt Ortega Jr. 5'9" | 170 lbs | QB Coatesville | 2026 State PA made the most of his opportunity, earning this third team selection. Tough young man who throws really well particularly on the run, he had a number of good accurate passes during 1 on 1s.

Matt Ortega is a talented quarterback in the 2026 class. Below is what my colleague Vic Castillo Vic Castillo RB PA said about him previously:
“Possibly the liveliest arm on this list. Matt Ortega Jr. is going to face an uphill battle in recruiting, for obvious reasons. That being said, coaches who come through Coatesville have no choice but to acknowledge Ortega’s abilities behind center. The young man fed two great offensive weapons, both of which will be playing Division One football in the future. I’d argue Ortega has the best release/arm talent combination on this list, a combination that has clearly been worked on throughout the years. I like Ortega’s 3-minute tape enough to place him above all of the rest on this list. Those who follow my rankings know what it means to place inside the Top 250. This is a sophomore class, so I’d call it a bit premature to grade him at the FCS level, but I could easily foresee a future where Ortega garners real interest from local PSAC schools. It’s way too early in the young man’s career to truly put a cap on what he’s capable of, so for now, we’ll keep our eyes peeled. I’ll likely be in attendance for another Coatesville District One football game this coming Fall”.
