Multiple QB’s could fit this category, but in this article, I will give the nod to Coatesville’s QB Mikal Shak Jr. The 6’4″ 195-Pound QB, was recently named as Pennsylvania’s top QB prospect. Shank had pretty mechanics, and delivered the ball quickly with accuracy. After watching more film on Shank Jr, I am impressed with the progression he has gone through over the past few years.

The Coatesville QB, headed all the way to Elite 11, then joined us back in PA for the PA Classic on Sunday. The newly ranked top QB in PA, had an impressive day in Votee Park. Standing at 6’4″ 195-Pounds, I was impressed by his size, and his ability to facilitate the ball to the WR’s. His accuracy showed throughout the day, and he had pure mechanics that delivered the ball quick and effortless.

Mikal Shank has had a busy off-season. After playing the past two seasons at Harrisburg and starting this past season, Shank has transferred to Coatesville. He also recently received offers from Towson, Eastern Michigan, and Lehigh. The future is bright for Shank, as I expect his momentum to continue going forward.
After a great conversation with @CoachNeugs1288 I’m blessed to receive an offer from Towson!! @Football_Cville @CoachMattOrtega @dan_sostek @PRZVicCastillo pic.twitter.com/w4sJO4QjPb

Mikal Shank is a talented quarterback who recently transferred from Harrisburg to Coatesville. He had an outstanding season for Harrisburg last year. Shank has a big arm, and he uses it well. His mechanics and footwork have improved greatly over the years. In a lot of ways, Shank is a prototypical quarterback with his size (6’4″) and ability to throw inside the pocket. He is also a good athlete who can move inside and outside the pocket. Coatesville is always one of the better teams in the Ches-Mont League and District 1. They are getting an excellent quarterback.

returns as a talented field general who brings size, athleticism, and leadership to Harrisburg’s offense. Standing at 6’4” and 194 pounds, Shank possesses the frame and arm strength that college programs value at the quarterback position. He demonstrates solid pocket presence while showing the ability to extend plays when protection breaks down. Shank is comfortable making throws at multiple levels of the field and continues to develop his decision-making and timing. His natural leadership qualities allow him to command the offense and build confidence among his teammates. During winter training sessions, Shank has focused on refining his mechanics and strengthening his overall football IQ. His dedication to improvement reflects his desire to take the next step as a complete quarterback. Shank is expected to play a major role in Harrisburg’s offensive success next season.

Another MVP-type performance, you can see a few of his reps in the video above, yet most of the recording was angled to capture WR/DB play. I’ll expand on Shank and his recruiting upside/future in a later post. Any coaches that happen upon this article can see what we at Prep Redzone have been preaching for what seems like years now, Shank’s the real deal.

Shank stood out for his urgency, timing, and overall command of the throwing session. He’s a confident kid. I thought Shank consistently set p quickly, delivered the ball with confidence, and showed nice short-area-accuracy. His ability to get the football out with both velocity and precision made him extremely effective in quick-game concepts. Shank’s ball placement allowed receivers to catch the football and transition quickly upfield.

In a losing effort, Mikal Shank played well for Harrisburg. He threw for 230 yards as he tried to bring Harrisburg back against Pittsburgh Central Catholic. A good job by Shank in a losing effort. Shank had an outstanding season for Harrisburg in his 1st season as the starting quarterback, and he should only continue to improve next season.

Mikal Shank was outstanding in this game as Harrisburg’s starting quarterback. He has a cannon of an arm, but he also showed accuracy when throwing the ball. He was especially lethal throwing the deep ball. He is also accurate as a passer. The other area he showed was the ability to throw with anticipation to his receivers. Shank was outstanding all night, throwing the ball.
This is exactly what you want from your QB and WR. @mikalshankjr reads it perfectly. Hits @Jaiyonlewis in the hole. Good throw and catch. Impressive stuff. pic.twitter.com/zQMtlLfd6N

Mikal Shank has had a strong Junior season for Harrisburg this year as the starting quarterback. He is a classic pocket quarterback who does a nice job of throwing from the pocket. The biggest area of growth he has had this year is his ability to throw with anticipation. He does a good job of understanding where to put the ball so only the receiver can catch it. He has one of the strongest arms in the 2027 class. He also puts the perfect amount of touch on the ball. Harrisburg plays Central Dauphin this week, a rematch of a 27-0 win earlier this year. Harrisburg is the favorite to win the District 6A Championship, and they need Shank to play well.
10-0 on the season. Super blessed and proud of my team!!
