Currently ranked inside our Pennsylvania 2028 top 200, this junior continues to develop into an intriguing Division I prospect with legitimate collegiate potential on both sides of the football. Listed at 6’3, 210 pounds, he has added five pounds since our preseason evaluation and maintains a 3.5 GPA. He previously self-reported a 4.74-second 40-yard dash, and I would love to evaluate him in person before the season concludes to get a better understanding of his current athletic profile. Although I have consistently liked his collegiate projection at safety, his offensive versatility at wide receiver and tight end is becoming increasingly difficult to overlook. He received a game day invitation from Western Kentucky University and attended a game day visit at Delaware in mid-September, further demonstrating the recruiting interest surrounding his development.

I appreciate how consistently he has shared film throughout the season, making it easy to follow his progress. He posted a midseason highlight reel approximately one month ago, running just one minute and 20 seconds. While relatively short, it provides several encouraging examples of his offensive ability, and I’m particularly excited to eventually review a complete junior season reel. This evaluation is primarily a check-in rather than a comprehensive reassessment, but the available footage continues to support his position among Pennsylvania’s more promising 2028 prospects.

His opening highlight features him aligned as an in-line tight end in a two-point stance, releasing across the formation on a crossing route in front of the linebackers. The play begins to break down, but he does an excellent job remaining available to his quarterback and finding space within the developing coverage. After securing the reception near the 30-yard line, he demonstrates arguably the most intriguing element of his offensive potential: his ability to generate yards after the catch. At 210 pounds, he accelerates into the open field and outruns several pursuing linebackers and safeties for approximately 30 additional yards. I love the combination of size, movement ability and situational awareness here. He doesn’t stop working when the original passing concept breaks down, and once the football reaches his hands, he becomes a legitimate threat to extend the play.

Another rep features him aligned as an in-line tight end in a three-point stance, where he serves as a reliable outlet for his quarterback. He releases into an out route, presents an accessible target and secures the reception for a relatively straightforward first down. His ability to work with his quarterback when plays develop differently than intended is particularly encouraging. Another highlight features him adjusting during an improvised passing situation and ultimately securing a touchdown. Those reps demonstrate a useful understanding of spacing and quarterback movement, along with the ability to remain productive when the offense is forced away from its initial design. From the offensive portion of this midseason tape, he appears to be working almost exclusively at tight end rather than wide receiver.

The reel also includes blocking and defensive reps that provide a more complete picture of his versatility. At tight end, he demonstrates the ability to execute down blocks and contribute on combination blocks, including duo concepts. Those responsibilities are important for his collegiate projection because he needs to offer value beyond receiving production. His safety footage appears midway through the reel, where he demonstrates reliable tackling ability and the awareness to prevent explosive plays from becoming touchdowns. He is particularly useful as a last line of defense, bringing down ball carriers after gains of approximately 10 to 20 yards rather than allowing them to break free for scores. I continue to appreciate his defensive potential, especially given his size, athletic background and ability to contribute in space.

Overall, this remains a Division I-caliber prospect in my eyes, and I’m increasingly interested in his long-term projection at tight end. I originally favored him as a collegiate safety, and that possibility certainly remains, but his offensive film is making a compelling argument for a positional adjustment within our rankings. He has the frame, receiving ability, yards-after-catch potential and developing blocking foundation to become an effective tight end at the next level. His ability to improvise alongside his quarterback is another valuable trait that consistently appears throughout the tape. I want to see more complete blocking footage, additional defensive reps and an updated athletic evaluation before making any definitive conclusions, but tight end is beginning to look like his most promising collegiate fit. I’ll continue monitoring his development and hope to see him in person before the season ends.

At 6-foot-3 and 205 pounds, Smith creates matchup problems as a receiver while bringing impressive range and physicality to free safety. His size gives him a significant advantage in contested situations and in the secondary. Smith’s two-way versatility provides the Golden Hawks with another dynamic player to move around the field. Expect Smith to emerge as one of the program’s young players to watch in 2026 and beyond.

The next step for Logan Smith Logan Smith 6'3" | 205 lbs | DB/WR Council Rock South | 2028 State PA is proving he can become the type of safety who erases mistakes instead of simply cleaning them up. I already saw enough to hand out an FCS potential grade, but I think there is another level available if he continues improving his range from the middle of the field, trusts his eyes, and consistently arrives at the catch point with bad intentions. Safeties who can both eliminate explosive plays and create turnovers quickly become valuable recruiting targets. Looking back on the board, this is one evaluation I wish I had been a little more aggressive with. There is enough ability here to convince me he can firmly establish himself as an FCS football player before his recruitment is over.

Safety appears to unlock the most value in his game. He processes plays well and consistently arrives under control. His willingness to tackle separates him from many defensive backs. The long term outlook remains encouraging.

Smith also demonstrates versatility, with the ability to match up against bigger receivers. His frame gives him long-term upside as he continues to develop physically. Smith projects as a versatile defensive back with strong potential at the next level.
