Lawrence Wells committed to Central Michigan on June 13. Last season, he had his breakthrough season with Ann Arbor Huron. This season, Lawrence will be the new starter for Brighton as they search for a KLAA West title.

In terms of skillset, Lawrence is a pure dual threat. Last season, he showcased his abilities outside of the pocket very often. Now, some High School dual-threats switch to being more pro-style in college, but with Lawrence, I’m confident he has the athleticism to be a college dual-threat. In terms of passing, Lawrence has demonstrated very high-level passing in 7on7 scenarios. At the MHSAA Camp in Brighton, Lawrence impressed me with his ability to throw with impeccable timing, accuracy, and touch. As long as he can show that same accuracy on Friday Nights, then I’ll be very confident in his trajectory in College.

Central Michigan- You may have your QB of the future!

Back in May, Lawrence Wells took over the MHSAA Camp in Brighton. He was undoubtedly the #1 player at either Brighton showcase, and he’s left us highly anticipating his Senior season. In a 7on7 format, Lawrence showcased a big arm, consistent mechanics, and truly impressive accuracy. Whether it was a short slant or a deep corner, Lawrence threw with just the right amount of power, touch, and timing. It’s a short sample size, but I’ve rarely seen a QB put up that type of performance and not back it up later in the season. Brighton has done their best to bring in great offensive talent, and I hope that Lawrence is able to gel with the offense enough to earn a ton of wins and great playoff seeding. For Lawrence to reach his ceiling this season, he’ll have to show that same great accuracy while keeping composure in big moments. I’m also looking for Lawrence to use his legs in a smart manner. If he can put it all together, Lawrence could be in the Mr. Football conversation.

Lawrence was a must-add for this update. A bit of a late-bloomer, Lawrence has garnered a ton of Division 1 attention over the past few months. Tyler and I first watched Lawrence at the MHSAA Camp in Brighton. There, Lawrence immediately turned heads from his size, length, and advertised athleticism. Late in the camp, Lawrence proved his fundamental prowess in addition to being able to throw the football to any part of the field. In addition, he threw the ball with way better anticipation and accuracy than most, considering he was throwing to random WRs. Central Michigan jumped on Lawrence early, and the Chippewas have a prime QB prospect who is likely to have a phenomenal senior season.

Before committing to Central Michigan a week ago, Lawrence garnered a ton of attention earlier this year. Earlier, he received offers from Ball State, Pitt, Eastern Michigan, and others.
At the MHSAA Showcase in Brighton, I finally understood why. First off, Lawrence passes the eye test, being an athletic 6’2″ QB with a quick throwing motion. Better yet, he’s consistently accurate. Throwing short crossers/outs, Lawrence is able to sling it with impressive power and accuracy. On deeper passes, Lawrence can throw with touch and again, impressive accuracy. Moving forward, I’d love to see more anticipation on his throws, which will happen if he develops great relationships with the Brighton WRs.
