Great instincts and anticipation skills to react and trigger to the ball. Can cover ground quickly with his change of direction and transitional speed to close space. Advanced ability to play the ball at the catch point, shows strong hands and high-level ball judgement skills to track/adjust. Johnson can play both corner and safety, and is a true middle of the field cover guy with elite ball skills, range and speed to shut down the entire back half of the field. A no brainer national recruit by the time it’s all said and done, he holds one offer from Cal, and that should soon change. In the open field, he plays with tremendous anticipation of the ball, baits quarterbacks into bad decisions before breaking on the ball and is a high IQ kid in zone coverage. In the run game, he sniffs out plays from the third level, can set the edge and even drop down in the box and slow play counters/tosses on the outside and make one on one open field tackles against bigger backs. His overall athleticism, instincts and elite ball skills/closing speed make him a very intriguing prospect with a very high floor.
