Jeneral Solomon Jeneral Solomon 5'11" | 175 lbs | DB Desert Mountain | 2027 State AZ has some of the better defensive back tape I’ve watched in a while, and what makes it so fun is that it’s not just one thing carrying the whole evaluation. Usually, when a DB really grabs your attention, it’s either the coverage stuff or the downhill physicality. With Solomon, it’s both, and that’s what makes him different. The first thing that jumps out is how quickly he sees run and how confident he is attacking it. He reads it early, trusts what he sees, and goes — and more importantly, he’s usually right when he does. That’s a huge deal from the back end because there are plenty of defensive backs who are willing to come support the run, but they’re late getting there, take a bad angle, or overrun the play once they finally do show up. Solomon doesn’t really have that problem. When he triggers, it’s decisive. He closes ground fast, and there’s a real edge to the way he finishes once he gets there. You also see it when he’s sent as a blitzer. He doesn’t look like a DB dipping his toe into the box — he looks comfortable attacking through traffic and finishing plays in space. Then you flip over to the coverage reps and it’s still just as impressive. His hips are fluid, he stays with guys well through their breaks, and I really liked how he plays through the hands at the catch point instead of just showing up and hoping the ball falls incomplete. That’s a small detail, but it tells you he understands how to actually finish. He doesn’t look like a DB surviving in coverage because he’s a good athlete. He looks like a DB who understands coverage — leverage, timing, and how to stay attached to a receiver without panicking. And that’s what makes the full picture so intriguing. When a defensive back can erase things downhill and still hold up when the ball goes in the air, you start talking about a player who can impact a defense in a lot of different ways.

With a strong athletic frame at 6’1” 190 lbs., Solomon is a versatile defender that brings great positional flexibility and playmaking ability at all levels of the field. He can line up deep as a high safety, roll into the box to support the run, or drop into the slot and handle man coverage responsibilities. In coverage, he shows natural instincts and fluid movement skills, with smooth footwork through his backpedal, seamless transitions, and the ability to break downhill with speed. His processing speed and anticipation stand out consistently reading route combinations and breaking on the ball before it’s out of the QB’s hand. His speed gives him good range to cover the whole field while his burst allows him to erase space quickly. Still awaiting that first offer but he checks a lot of boxes with D1 talent, ability, and size. Ranked #59 overall and the #6 DB.

2027 Defensive Back Jerneral Solomon adds to an already excellent cast of defensive secondary pieces for this Desert Mountain defense. In this past season, he collected 42 total tackles, 22 of those as solo tackles, 5 TFLs, 1 INT, and 5 pass deflections. The majority of his snaps came at the free safety position, but he displayed position fluidity as he could walk up into the box and play strong safety. He is a great tackler, understanding leverage and wrapping up at the opponent’s waist beautifully. His ball skills are there; teams were just afraid to throw it into his zone, as he can cover a ton of ground on the backend. Solomon will look to solidify his status this season as one of the best safeties in the state.

Good athletic frame at 6’1” 190 lbs., he’s a versatile defender that can line up in different spots and make an impact. Plays well in coverage whether he’s a deep field safety or rolling downhill to cover the slot. Also shows he can play off the edge in run support. Natural coverage instincts, he’s smooth with his footwork and is fluid throughout his back pedal, transition, and break. Excellent read processing skills and anticipation to locate the ball and trigger to close space. He’s got good burst to close and flies around with great range to play sideline to sideline. Well-coached, he’s technically sound in all areas. High ceiling prospect that will see D1 attention.

Solomon is a dynamic, pure all around football player that does all of the little things right. He can be a nightmare on blitz packages as he’ll take away the edges and either blow up ball carriers or force them inside, or get skinny and fly through gaps. Very good in coverage with the ability to come up and play press man, sit back 7-9 yards deep in Man, or cover ground with his speed in zone. Solid ball skills all around as well as it comes naturally to his athleticism. Sound, fundamental tackler that has flashed the ability to explode through opponents hips. The play speed, football IQ, and physicality are all things that are at the top of the checklist, so I expect Solomon’s stock to shoot up.
