Ryan McDonough Ryan McDonough 5'10" | 180 lbs | ATH Desert Mountain | 2026 State AZ was the game‑wrecker, plain and simple — the kind of defender who doesn’t just show up on film, he takes over the entire rhythm of a championship game. He was everywhere: blowing up protections, triggering downhill with zero hesitation, and flying around with that violent, relentless style that translates no matter which side of the ball he’s on. He ended up taking home the defensive MVP, and then still turned around and gave Desert Mountain a huge edge in field position with 114 kick‑return yards — including a big one that didn’t even count. That’s the part that separates him: he’s not just a defensive problem, he’s a tone‑setter and a momentum thief, the guy who drags a game in his direction with pure energy.

The veteran leadership on the backend for this young but talented secondary will be 2026 Defensive Back Ryan McDonough Ryan McDonough 5'10" | 180 lbs | ATH Desert Mountain | 2026 State AZ . The All-Region Corner stats from the defensive side of the ball include 44 total tackles, 30 of those as solo tackles, 5 TFLs, 1 sack, 2 INTs, including one of those as a pick-six, 2 forced fumbles, and 7 pass deflections. He is also a highly effective special teams player, both as a gunner and as a returner, as he did have two kick return touchdowns. He is a remarkable athlete with tremendous speed and impressive agility to move smoothly at the cornerback position. He has the position flexibility to play on the outside or in the slot. What is truly impressive about his game is his scrappiness and physicality, as he can overwhelm opponents with hard-hitting and powerful punches that often lead to incompletions or turnovers for his team. With any exciting team and defense around him, look for McDonough to shine among them in his senior season.

McDonough is a pure football player that can impact the game playing a variety of positions. Excels in the secondary using his natural coverage instincts and anticipation. Plays bigger than his 5’10” 180 lb. frame being a physical defender in both coverage and as a tackler. Flashes high level route recognition skills to stay attached to the hip and be in phase to all three levels of the field. Can transition out of his backpedal to run vertically and use his lateral agility to match movement on short/intermediate routes. Always in the right place at the right time to make game breaking plays. Great technique and footwork throughout his pedal, transition, and break. Will be a four year starter at Desert Mountain and has picked up four D1 offers since March.
4 Offers: Cornell, Navy, Georgetown, Army

Another triple threat that can be a difference maker on offense, defense, and special teams. He’s explosive in the return game averaging 47 yards per kick return as a junior leading all 5A and 6A returners. He’s a fast-reacting DB that anticipates where the play is going to get an early break to the ball. Plus change of direction and lateral quickness to accelerate out of his transition and close space. Can effectively play all spots in the secondary. At RB, he’s a downhill runner that is elusive in the short area and has the long speed to gain chunk yardage. A pure football player that can play all over the field and is expected to have a breakout junior year.
