Expert Analysis

JD was one of the earliest prospects I ever covered when I began writing for Prep Redzone in 2023. As a freshman at the time, he stood out to me as a key player for Radford, and he has continued and now ranks in our Top 50 players for the class of 2028. While his season was cut short last year, he was a playmaker when he was on the field, playing offense and defense. He is transferring to Roanoke Catholic this fall, giving them a backfield combo of JD and

looks like a major stock riser in our new 2028 class rankings, he was turning heads left and right over the weekend. Rushing for over 500 yards and 5 scores last year for Radford, him transferring to North Cross could be quite the addition. Grubb was fantastic all afternoon with good testing numbers and excellent work during the individual drills. Numerous times during the 1vs1s the coaches were coming up to me asking about him, he is so fluid and explosive out of the backfield.

is registered. Grubb has been a stud the past two years for the Bobcats. Playing as a freshmen Grubb hits the hole with vision and power, he should shine on Sunday. He catches the ball out of the backfield too, watch out for him during the individual drills.

JD is back for his second year on varsity for Radford and has started strong. He is excelling in the receiving game, providing a good target out of the backfield. He has good block processing on inside runs, able to find the open hole and quickly plant his foot and cut up field with good burst through the hole to the second level. He can quickly press the edge on outside runs and get up field. On the second level, he has very good short area quickness to make defenders miss. In addition to Running Back, he is playing Safety on defense and Punt Returner.

I was able to attend a Radford game this past season, and JD quickly stood out to me as a freshman running back on varsity. He is a good athlete with very good foot quickness, lateral agility, and change of direction with good acceleration, solid speed, and balance. He is an elusive runner who is patient in following his blocks in Gap concepts and has good vision and reaction to make a cut in Zone concepts. He has good burst through the hole, with solid run strength and balance to keep his feet against arm tackles. His lateral agility and change of direction allows him to create yards when a play breaks down and make a move in the open field to evade second and third-level defenders. JD can run a basic route tree out of the backfield with good hands, and has the ability to run after the catch with his good athleticism.
