Byrd burst onto the scene as a sophomore and has gotten better every year since. A talented dual-threat, Byrd threw for over 10,000 yards and ran for another 1,700 in his career. He’s among the all-time state leaders in total touchdowns and threw at least one touchdown pass in all 40 of his starts. He’ll go down as one of the most productive quarterbacks in state history and ETSU is getting a guy who could start early. I have a G5 grade on him, even though he’s bound for the FCS level.

(ETSU commit) leads the #1 seed Cleveland past an almost disastrous result. Byrd went 18-38 for 236 passing yards and 1 touchdown and added 51 yards rushing and 1 touchdown. Byrd and his Rams (11-0) last 3 games has been decided by 3 points or less!

It seems like Byrd has been at Cleveland forever, just calmly doing his thing and not getting the recognition he deserves. With a four-touchdown performance last Friday, Byrd broke both the Cleveland High School and Johnston County career touchdown records. While he’s probably not catching Chris Leak’s all-time state record, Byrd is likely to get into the top 10 and could possibly reach the top five with a strong finish to his senior year. He’s done it with a mix of high-level accuracy and a willingness to run. He’s more aggressive this season than I’ve ever seen him and he’s playing better than ever before.

I’ve been a huge fan of Byrd’s for a few years as he’s one of the most accurate quarterbacks I’ve ever evaluated, despite his lack of truly elite size and arm strength. He’s able to manipulate his feet and arm angle to deliver throws from a variety of places and knows how to layer throws in between zones as well as any quarterback in the class. Still, he didn’t get a ton of college interst and the Buccaneers of East Tennessee State are getting a steal.

Jackson emerges as one of the top quarterbacks not just in North Carolina but nationally, boasting an exceptional junior campaign in 2023. With an impressive 3,624 passing yards, completing 243 out of 360 attempts, along with 37 touchdowns and a 120.6 QBR, he showcases his prowess as a dynamic playmaker. Standing at 6’0″ and weighing 190 pounds, Jackson also proves his dual-threat capabilities by rushing for 417 yards on 60 carries, scoring 11 touchdowns, and accumulating a total of 4,041 yards of offense for Cleveland High School. Drawing interest from numerous Division I programs, Jackson displays a strong arm, pocket poise, and the ability to extend plays effectively. His precision, quick release, and high football IQ further solidify his status as a top prospect. As the reigning Offensive Player of the Year for the GNRC and former Conference Player of the Year, Jackson serves as a veteran, captain, and leader at quarterback, garnering significant attention from colleges with more offers expected. Expect him to lead Cleveland on another impressive playoff run with aspirations of contending for the state title, poised to make a significant impact at the collegiate level and beyond.
