Jace was a nice find for me last season. I absolutely love his lanky frame and pure ball skill. He has a nice release, gets in and out of breaks with ease, and provides his QB a nice safety net with a wide catch radius. With the graduation of some pieces on the outside for Grand Blanc, Jace’s role will continue to expand. His connection with his QB Jake Dewitt is going to be key against a strong Belleville defense on Thursday night.

Grand Blanc has done an excellent job of developing receivers over the years, and Jace could be next in line. 0:32 is a good example of his current abilities. The route itself could use some work, but Jace does an excellent job of snagging the ball out of thin air and holding on through the tackle. Next, 0:55 indicates that Jace has the mentality necessary to block at a high level. The DB actually does a solid job of trying to shed the block. Jace uses the DB’s momentum to ride him away from the ballcarrier and into another defender. Similarly, 1:06 is another great block, again using the DBs momentum against him.

This was my first real look at Jace under the Friday night lights, and I came away very impressed. Right away, he passes the eye test. Great height and frame for a sophomore, and a wide catch radius. What really stood out to me was his attention to detail and decisiveness as a route runner. The highlight of the night came when he fired off, cut quickly for a slant, and was able to snag it and head up field for the touchdown. At that size and athleticism, he’s incredibly hard to guard. Jace’s blend of size, coordination and hands makes him a really interesting prospect moving forward.
