Expert Analysis
Matt DeBary | Prep Redzone Scout
A tough, hard-hitting linebacker who knows how to leave a bruise, Murray reacts quickly and closes well on the ball-carrier. He understands his role and brings an intimidating presence to the Lee County defense. He’s one of the top returning linebackers in the area and currently ranked as the No. 9 LB prospect in the state for the 2027 class. As a sophomore, Murray made 80 tackles and 26 TFLs, proving to be one of the more productive defenders on the team.

Murray won’t necessarily scare you off the bus at 5’10 190, at least yet, but he produced on varsity this fall against good competition and flashes outstanding athleticism at the LB spot. He plays low to the ground and dissects the play very well, slipping by OL leaking out to the second level and cutting off running angles for the RB. He is a firm tackler, working momentum through the ground and striking with good pad level. When left untouched as a blitzer, he can get to the QB before he even has time to settle in the pocket and read the field. If he can get to around 6’1 210, which is certainly a possibility, there is a good chance he picks up some FBS buzz. He can get pressure right in the face of QBs and be extremely active between the hashes. He is certainly someone I will be watching closely over the next few years.

Saw Murray for the first time a year ago at the Future Stars Game as a seventh-grader and came back again last month as an eighth-grader, to wrap up his pre-high school career. He’s a good looking athlete with pretty good length at 5-foot-10 and 190 pounds. Competes and plays multiple sports which was evident in crunch time of a very hard-fought game against Florida. He moves really well laterally and tested with a 4.97 in the forty. Looks to be a natural inside linebacker, but does possess some traits that makes me feel a move to outside linebacker isn’t out of the question.

is back as a monster of the midway for the eighth grade Georgia Future Stars. Murray is taller, has more muscle and has gotten his 40 time down to a hand-timed 4.97 this spring. In addition to bringing experience to this group, he also brings some athleticism and versatility. He plays on his toes and is constantly in attack mode, swarming to the football quickly. He’s fast enough to play at sam or will, but he could be a game-changer at the mike position.

who walked away with a hard-earned, competitive MVP award. Murray is a 5-foot-10, 190-pound athlete that plays a physical and dominant style of Linebacker. He loves to compete and has very fluid movement, allowing him to drop in coverage like a Defensive Back, yet still more than strong enough to be a dominant point of attack Linebacker. Murray reminded FSG staff of former FSG athlete and Auburn Linebacker, Owen Pappoe. Pappoe is affectionately nicknamed “The Freak” and is entered in the 2023 NFL Draft.
