Matt Tate | Prep Redzone Scout
Emgarten is the current 5A leader in receiving yardage. Over the 23-24 season, Emgarten had 61 receptions for 1178 yards and 8 touchdowns. On the ground, he had 13 carries for 71 yards and 1 touchdown. Hunter measures in at 5’11” 165 pounds. Emgarten has elite athletic ability due to elite change of direction, elite speed, very good acceleration, and good balance. He can put it in 5th gear instantly. Very explosive. Demonstrates good mental processing by looking back at the QB in the scramble drill and coming back to the QB. Emgarten has good separation quickness due to his elite athletic ability. He’ll outrun defenders at the top of the route. Or use his shifty happy feet to cut and go. He’s good good ball tracking skills and body control. Able to adjust above/below his frame to complete the catch. Fluid natural catching motion. He’ll go up and catch the contested balls. Physical in the run blocking game too and would lock DBs up in the run game.

Emgarten was a receiver that was working hard during the offseason and it has shown to start this season. He is a receiver with a lot of speed and can make things happen when he gets into the open field, turning on the jets and outrunning defenders to get into the endzone. He has great vision when he turns into a ball carrier and can make the first defender miss. He will be a prospect to keep on the radar as he tries to continue this hot start.

Emgarten is an explosive two-way player that is able to turn quick hitting plays into big chunk plays. He is a physical runner that is hard to bring down in the open field, being able to break tackles and gain extra yards. On the defensive end he is able to make open field tackles and cut the ball carrier down. He has good vision and is able to break on the ball, creating turnovers at times. He is also able to contribute in the return game, he has the ability to make the opponent pay an take it to the house on returns.

Emgarten was a player that quietly had himself a day and was good in coverage working against the receivers. In drill work he looked smooth and had good footwork, exploding out of his breaks. When they started working group drills, when he was up it seemed as if he was constantly taking away his receiver from the play. He showed good vision being a ball hawk and was able to come away with 1 of the 2 interceptions on the day. On the offensive end he shows soft hands and is shifty, being able to get behind the defense and lose defenders in coverage.

Emgarten is a player that is flying under but it won’t be that way for long. He is a big play threat in the return game and returned a couple for touchdowns this past year. If he is able to duplicate the success in the return game this year he will standout for college prospects. In the receiving game he looks fluent with his route running and shows good hands. He is effective in the quick passing game and navigates through his blocking well when he has the ball in his hands. He uses his speed to outrun defenders and has those explosive plays that you look for. Would like to see him improve his separation on route but is a skilled player that can make defenders miss in the open field.
