I put together an All-State Team for the Colorado 5A League. So many talented players and great performances, I struggled to create this list. Without further ado, let’s dive into the team and analysis.
You’ve probably heard of Modrzewski by now. He’s been popping up in our articles over the season, and with good reason. Austyn has the prototypical QB size at 6’5″ 190 pounds. Over the season, he threw for 3675 yards, 41 TDs and 7 interceptions with a completion rate of 70.3%. He ran 47 times for 180 yards and 4 touchdowns. He led all 5A quarterbacks in yardage and touchdowns. Modrzewski has a cannon for a arm. He uses that in tandem with his good accuracy at all levels, to pick apart and slice up defenses. Shows poise in the pocket. When he’s pressured he stays cool and demonstrates good mental processing by choosing the correct read, and making the play. Keeps his eyes downfield to find open receivers. One of the top tier QBs that Colorado has to offer.
Highlights
Grandview’s star QB played phenomenal over the season earning him a place on the Air Force roster. Szarka measures in at 6’2″ 190 pounds, which is a good size for a QB. Over the season, he threw for 2922 yards, 22 touchdowns and 6 interceptions with a completion rate of 63.5%. On the ground he has 155 carries for 579 yards and 15 touchdowns. Szarka brings that dual threat ability. He has good athletic ability due to good speed, acceleration and change of direction. Good physical strength. Not afraid to put the shoulder down to create contact. He’ll use his big body to shed defenders. Demonstrates good mental processing by reading the defense, and making the correct read. When under pressure, he’s shown poise in the pocket and bombs it downfield. Szarka has good arm strength combined with a quick snappy release makes him a formidable opponent. His accuracy is good at all 3 levels, but his medium accuracy stands above the others. Air Force is getting a great QB.
Highlights
Price is the 5A leading rusher and with good reason. He measures at 6’2″ 220 pounds. Over the season, Price accounted for 2018 rushing yards on 232 carries for 27 touchdowns. Through the air, he had 7 receptions for 170 yards and 2 touchdowns. Kid’s a baller. Price is a downhill bruising type of running back. He demonstrates all the qualities of a top tier back. Price has a good athletic ability due to good speed, acceleration, and change of direction. He has good competitive toughness. Price would run through defenders with ease and would keep going even when tackled. Very physical and powerful RB. He shows good mental processing by utilizing good vision to choose the correct hole. He makes good cuts. Subtle enough to keep the defender off balance. Price is headed to UNC (Colorado) in the fall, and they’re getting a stud.
The 2nd leading rusher in the 5A league. Snyder made his mark on the champion winning Columbine Rebels. He measures in at 5’11” 185 pounds. Throughout the season, Snyder ran the ball 207 times for 1717 yards and 25 touchdowns. Through the air, he caught the ball 17 times for 210 yard and 1 TD. Snyder has a very good athletic ability due to very good speed, acceleration and change of direction. He’s shown to have good mental processing by choosing the correct holes made by the offensive line. Good burst of acceleration to create separation. He’s shown good competitive toughness by having a high motor, and not giving up on plays. Physicality is apart of Snyder’s game, and he won’t shy away from contact. He comes out on top.
Emgarten is the current 5A leader in receiving yardage. Over the 23-24 season, Emgarten had 61 receptions for 1178 yards and 8 touchdowns. On the ground, he had 13 carries for 71 yards and 1 touchdown. Hunter measures in at 5’11” 165 pounds. Emgarten has elite athletic ability due to elite change of direction, elite speed, very good acceleration, and good balance. He can put it in 5th gear instantly. Very explosive. Demonstrates good mental processing by looking back at the QB in the scramble drill and coming back to the QB. Emgarten has good separation quickness due to his elite athletic ability. He’ll outrun defenders at the top of the route. Or use his shifty happy feet to cut and go. He’s good good ball tracking skills and body control. Able to adjust above/below his frame to complete the catch. Fluid natural catching motion. He’ll go up and catch the contested balls. Physical in the run blocking game too and would lock DBs up in the run game.
Jackson Hansen
Jackson Hansen
The #2 5A leading receiver only behind Emgarten by 2 yards. Hansen accounted for 91 receptions for 1176 yards and 13 touchdowns. He measures in at 5’10 140 pounds. Hansen is another elite receiver out in Colorado. Hansen has very good athletic ability due to very good speed, acceleration and change of direction. Also has good mental processing. He’s able to identify the zones and sit in the void. Will come back to QB in scramble drill. He’s got a good release and using the 1,2 shake movement to beat the DB at the line of scrimmage. Hansen has good separation quickness due to his athletic ability and mental processing. Creates separation through outrunning the defender or using COD to juke them. He’ll identify the coverage and exploit it. Hansen has very good catching and body control. Makes catches look easy, whether in traffic or stationary. Fluid movement. He’ll go up for the contested catch and use his good body control to stay in bounds while holding onto the ball. Adjusts above/below body frame. Utilizes his homerun speed to get more yards after the catch.
Conway is the 3rd receiver on the team, sliding into the slot. Conway measures at 5’11” 160 pounds. Throughout the season, he had 65 receptions for 887 yards and 15 touchdowns. Conway is leading the 5A league in touchdown receptions. Conway has good athletic ability due to good speed, change of direction and acceleration. Conway demonstrates good mental processing by finding the voids in zones and exploiting them. Will sit in the open void. Good release. Physical with DB during press jam situations, and beats them consistently at the line of scrimmage. He demonstrates good separation quickness due to his athletic ability and mental processing. Will outrun defenders and juke them out. Demonstrates natural catching, either stationary or in traffic. Very good ball tracking skills and will come down with contested catches. He holds onto the ball while being hit. Good yards after the catch. He will use his home run speed and physicality to shed multiple tackles to reach the endzone.
