Expert Analysis
Oliver West | Prep Redzone Scout
Far from a surprising recruiting rise here, Edina’s Gage Geyer Gage Geyer 6'4" | 245 lbs | DL Edina | 2027 State MN was one of the best JV players in Minnesota last year, as well as one of the biggest. Now a hulking reported 6’5, 255 lbs., I saw Geyer live and in the flesh against Eden Prairie, as the junior was an obvious eye-catcher, even amongst some fellow giants on the two former Classic Lake competitors. Geyer, who also plays hockey for Edina’s vaunted prep team (JV in ’24-’25), and in this 2025 prep football regular season he’s posted 13 tackles, 3 TFLs, and 3 PBUs in five games of action.
Starting with a busy summer August on the recruiting front that included gameday invites from Washington State, Wyoming, North Dakota, Army, South Dakota State, and Northern Illinois, Geyer has stayed busy throughout September and October. Starting with his first offer from NSIC competitor UMary, Geyer has received gameday invites and has visited North Dakota State and Minnesota on unofficials, and he’s heard from Wyoming, North Dakota, Ohio, and Washington State as well.
The Edina product is positionally versatile and can play 3T or 5T, and I love how much depth and width he can get on his first step, as Geyer is able to get vertical and get into the face of RBs and QBs before a play can fully develop. He explodes out of his stance, does a great job of bringing his hips through contact, can translate heavy hands and sled work to moving mass and shocking OL at the LOS, as his heavy hands crumpled a couple opposing OL at first contact in his midseason tape. The 250+ pounder shows a strong base and can make tackles through contact, closes with pace, id good tackler who is able to make 1v1 tackles in space, and can pursue out to the sideline and shows some defensive range for a DL of his size. His length is useful in getting his hands up into passing lanes on quick game. The play speed, first step, length, and physicality really have me excited about Geyer’s upside. Plus the multi-sport background. Would like to see that production step up a notch, especially in the pass rush department, but this is his first year on varsity against big-time OL competition, so he could be more of a slow burn. Definite name to watch who I could see blowing up and earning those coveted D1 offers on the all-important junior year offseason and summer camp circuit.
