Either one of two things happened with regards to Eiljah Burress concerning our initial update: we either totally missed or Burress got a helluva lot better. Burress continued to show that he works well in space and can square dance his opponents and maximizes his catch radius; however, something just looks different about him. Perhaps it is his speed. Perhaps it is his sharp, crips route running. It also could be how he has managed to become more elusive than in the past. Maybe it is his propensity to make bigger, more explosive plays. In all likelihood it is probably the inexact measure of all of these attributes that helped Burress make the leap from a very good prospect to an elite one.

put on a clinic in DePaul Catholic’s game against Pope John, showcasing his full skill set as a wide receiver. His standout trait in this matchup was his exceptional deep ball tracking. Elijah’s ability to adjust his body and eyes while the ball was in midair led to multiple touchdowns. He consistently outmaneuvered the cornerback covering him, beating his man three times and exploiting an apparent mismatch that Pope John failed to address.
With Pope John opting not to double-cover him, Elijah took full advantage, hauling four catches for 104 yards. Two of those receptions were explosive plays of 20 yards or more. Elijah’s performance was nothing short of dominant, further proving why he’s one of the top receivers in New Jersey. His outstanding game also serves as a reminder of why Notre Dame is eager to bring him aboard at the end of the season.

is of a rare pedigree and legacy. The younger Burress runs routes in a variety of ways in terms of speed, tempo, and sharpness; however, all his movements translate to a violent, attacking type of style. Beyond his routes this level of violence carries over to how he squares defenders up and looks to work around them.

DePaul entered the playoffs with a losing record, but are now on a 3 game winning streak. DePaul has one of the most talented 2025 classes in the state, and if they were to not take home the title Tuesday evening, don’t be surprised if they’re an early favorite to win it in 2024.
I have highlighted a lot of DePaul’s juniors already but wanted to shed light on an up and coming talent in

. Elijah is a junior wide receiver that has been picking up steam towards the latter half of the season. With 113 yards and 2 touchdowns in their first playoff game, Elijah has been making a bigger and bigger impact as the team gets closer to the state championship. A receiver with track star speed, Elijah can dart past defensive backs and reel in over the shoulder catches with ease. And a player with sharp cuts that separates him from defenders, Elijah makes it easy for his QB to throw to.
