Stats: 20/35, 285 Yards, 2 TDsrnDuke continued to be a reliable field general for West De Pere. He faced decent pressure throughout the night, but it didn’t phase him. Shovald proved to be very poised in the pocket, maneuvering when he needed to but not abandoning the pocket. Instead we saw him keep his eyes downfield and deliver passes in the face of that pressure. Shovald’s accuracy and touch once again stood out to every level of the field. The senior did have to leave with an injury in the second half or the numbers could have been even bigger. Hopefully we see him make a quick recovery and continue to prove to be one of the steals at the QB position.

. He averaged just under 20 pass attempts per game, but his decision making and accuracy maximize those attempts. He completed 63.3% of his passes last year, and he will have his multiple of talented receiving options back with him to work with. A key contributor to Duke finishing 10th in passing last year was his 14 game schedule. West De Pere looks poised for another playoff run, and leading the way will be the poised passer.

It was great to see one of the more productive and talented passers in the state of Wisconsin. Duke checked in at 6’1″ 190 lbs, broad jumped 9’1″ and vertical jumped 33.6″. Shovald took the field and showed off his strong pinpoint ball placement/accuracy. His innate ability to thread the needle has been a strength on tape, and it showed up at River Falls. Duke’s has strong control over the ball, and his touch boosted his throws even more. He can drop it over a defender and his receiver’s shoulder right in stride or put it in the back corner of the endzone for only his man. The 64% completion percentage passer is surgical with the ball. Don’t miss out on him.

If Duke wasn’t the most technically sound QB in attendance then he was #2. Not many of the 20+ QBs were on his level when it game to mechanics and overall technique. The junior proved to be one of the top pure throwers of the football that WI will have to offer next Fall. The young man has an efficient throwing motion that got the ball out of his hands in an instant, which gave defenders little time to close on the catch point if they weren’t perfectly in stride with the receiver. The motion wasn’t just fast either. It was consistent. Sitting here writing this I can still picture the throwing motion because he was so repetitive. A major key to that was the junior’s footwork. He is light on his feet, and he always had his feet connected to his eyes.
The junior is coming off a great junior campaign that ended with him leading his team to Camp Randall for the State Championship. He is also his school’s leader in career passing yards with a year to go. Keep an eye on the West De Pere athlete.

Stats: 18/29, 248 yards, 2 TDsrnWest De Pere is going to be a tough out in these playoffs thanks in part to their well balanced offense. The one responsible for the pass offense is the 6′ 175 lbs junior QB. Quick feet, and a quick release get Shovald through his drop and the ball out of his hands quickly. His footwork is consistent, allowing him to be an accurate passer to every level of the field. His upper and lower body work well together to give him that accuracy. Duke is also an intelligent, decisive passer. He knows where to look, and trusts what he sees leaving no hesitation in his play. Shovald is a QB to keep an eye on.
