Recent Commitment: Washington State
Notes: One of the top tight ends across the western region shut down his recruitment and committed to Washington State, making it two top 2026 Idaho prospects pledging to the Cougars. Byrd is a very balanced prospect that can effectively stretch the field, is physical at the POA and is a willing blocker and physical pass catcher/violent runner with the ball in his hands.

Byrd is a very athletic tight end prospect with the ideal size and frame for the next level. He shows he can play both in the slot, attached, or even in the backfield. He’s a violent blocker that explodes through contact and also shows natural hands and a big catch radius downfield. He is strong with a ball in his hands and tough to bring down in the open field once he gets going and does a good job at boxing out smaller defenders. He has seen his recruitment pick-up this spring and picked up a big offer from Washington State earlier this Winter. He should continue to see some offers coming his way in the coming months and is in line for a huge Senior season.

Byrd checks into our rankings as the number two tight end in the 2026 class and just inside the top ten overall across Idaho. Byrd has the ideal frame for the position at the next level at 6’5″ and over 220 pounds and moves well for his size with a huge catch radius and is very physical with the ball in his hands, and looks for contact in the open field. He shows he can win on contested catches, box out smaller defenders while able to knife up-field quickly after the catch and is tough to bring down in the open field.

The Rocky Mountain product checks into our rankings as a top 6 prospect in the 2026 class across Idaho, and as the number two prospect at his position. Byrd is a smooth athlete for his size and a big and physical tight end that has the ideal frame + growth potential for the position as he moves through his prep and college career. He shows a huge catch radius and tracking abilities, strong hands in traffic and can stretch the field over the middle while very physical with the ball in his hands after the catch. He is a long strider that covers a ton of ground downfield, and is a true mismatch against smaller linebackers and safeties. Currently, he holds an offer from Nevada and is rated as a 3-star prospect per 247-Sports.

Byrd is one of the top players in the class of 2026 with his ability to flex out and really impact the game with his receiving. It will be interesting to see how he has improved in his inline blocking because he has all the talent to be a top tier tight end at the next level.

Byrd has all the elite tools you are looking for in a tight end at the next level. With the ability to really run along with natural hands, Byrd is coming off an injury and has had a really good summer. Picking up a Nevada offer is big time and you can see why. As he grows into his frame he will become a more well rounded blocker but he shines in the pass game with smooth route running and 50/50 ball attacking ability.

Byrd checks in at the number five spot overall in our rankings, and the number one tight end prospect in the state. He moves around from both the slot and outside, but is a mismatch nightmare wherever he lines up due to his huge catch radius, size, and physicality at the POA when making contested catches. Byrd’s size and length scream tight end at the next level, and he will only continue to pack on more weight and mass to his frame over the next two years. He is a very smooth athlete for his size, runs well downfield and tracks the ball over the top while able to make contested catches in traffic and has some open field long speed while covering a ton of ground. Look for Byrd to really be a breakout player in 2024, and start gathering next level interest as he enters into his Junior season.

Byrd is going to be the next up and coming top tight end prospect out of Idaho as he gets through his Sophomore season. He has very nice size for his age, a huge frame with the ability to put on more weight and develop into a top tier talent for the position across the western region. He is explosive off the ball from his inline tight end position, can stretch the field with long strides and shows strong hands in traffic, while able to box out smaller defenders in space and win on 50/50 balls consistently. Byrd also shows the willingness to block defensive ends and linebackers, while also able to run a wide variety of routes and is a true mismatch nightmare for linebackers and safeties due to his size, willingness to go up and snatch the ball, and his downfield long speed. Look for Byrd to have a monster off season in 2024, and shoot up our 2026 rankings soon.
