Petersen checks into our rankings as a top 5 linebacker in the class and just inside the top 20 overall. He is a true banger inside that can plug and play in between the tackles, flows well over the top while able to navigate through traffic to get into the backfield and quickly shocks/sheds blocks and is a efficient tackler that brings a punch at the POA. He flashes he can run through lead blockers and fill gaps quickly while moving well in space with change of direction and agility when moving outside the tackles in open space. He should draw plenty of D2+ attention through his senior year and is a key defender to note heading into 2026.

Petersen is one of the more active inside linebackers across Idaho, and a no-bainer candidate to enter into our next rankings update. He does a nice job navigating through traffic downhill on his way into the backfield and is a sure tackler that packs a punch at the POA. He shows he can shock and shed quickly in the hole, change direction/has fluid hips in coverage and can turn and run if needed. His ability to consistently make plays behind the line and sniff out screens/draws quickly along with his playmaking abilities outside the tackles makes him a balanced product that should draw plenty of next level attention.
