of Glenwood has been on a heater. In fact, he’s been one of the hotter prospects in the state this year, receiving all 12 off his offers since the second week of February this year. He’s also received Power 4 interest from Minnesota, Kansas and Iowa State in the last six weeks.
A big and tall two-way lineman, Buthe’s 6-foot-5 and 265-pound frame immediately pops on film. His play makes him even more noticeable. A violent right tackle and edge for the Rams, Buthe will put dudes in the dirt if they’re coming after his teammates, or if they’re in the way of the ball-carrier. Using his length to create separation and disengage from blockers on defense and to level defenders as a tackle, Buthe may be one of the more fun to watch OL/DL in the class of 2027.
On offense, he posted 28 pancake blocks, while putting together 28.5 tackles, 10.5 tackles-for-loss (TFLs), seven sacks, a forced fumble and an interception for the Rams last season.

was one of the top newcomers to this rankings update, landing as the top defensive lineman and top-15 overall. Buthe played on both sides of the ball for the Rams and recorded 28.5 tackles, 10.5 TFLs, seven sacks, a forced fumble, a fumble recovery, and an interception. Drake stands out immediately with his lengthy frame at 6’5″ and 265 pounds, with room to continue bulking up at the collegiate level. His lengthy reach allows him to fully extend when shooting from his stance and to be the aggressor at the point of contact. Buthe is relentless in his pursuit, showing a nonstop motor that runs from snap to whistle and the lateral quickness to track down backs and corral scrambling QBs. Drake is effective as a power rusher, displaying strong hip and upper-body power to drive defenders off their spot. Very good mobility and agile on his feet. Mean streak that leads him to finish his plays with a stop or pancake, depending on which side he’s on.

Buthe impressed me when I saw his sophomore film following the 2024 campaign. I wrote about his potential and looked forward to progress shown as a junior. When I checked in on early-season film, I saw just that. Buthe stands out for his agility, mobility and athleticism. There are no issues in reaching blocks, including well into open space. He runs like a tight end when pulling and arrives at the opponent with bad intentions. Already a player embracing physicality, plenty of projection remains for Buthe’s frame. He can comfortable add strength and mass without sacrificing the assets that already make him effective. Buthe is a prospect as a defensive lineman, too. There’s a lot for colleges to like.

View Buthe as a piece of clay capable of being molded into a special talent on the gridiron. We’ll see during the next few years how that comes together, but chances are excellent that plenty of colleges will be interested in the finished product. When viewing Buthe’s sophomore film, one can be conflicted about where he’ll end up positionally. He’s an agile, athletic and physical offensive lineman with a nasty streak. On defense, the upside at end is significant. He’s disciplined in setting the edge and explodes off of it when in attack mode.
