We had a crop of sound 2029 quarterbacks in attendance in the second session of the Prep Redzone Minnesota Showcase and one of the top-tier ones regardless of class in my eyes was the performance that came out of Wayzata’s Jamison Mackley. He’s been around the block at our recent Minnesota showcases, but this one by far was his best outing when it came down to the arm talent he displayed. He has excellent poise for his age that blends right in with the upperclassmen group and has gotten much smoother with his throwing mechanics even getting to watch him somewhat recently, he’s grown quite a bit. Some of the ball placements that Jamision had in the live reps I watched also showed that high football IQ in the throws he was able to make. He was put thru the ringer in the 40-yard dash, and still after the 5th rep was able to put together a time in the mid 4.7s which shows you that this young man is going to be one that is going to develop even more increasing that rhythm outside of the pocket in the upcoming years to come.

The top QB in Minnesota’s 2029 class,

is a legit arm talent that the Land of 10,000 Lakes – and especially its QB aficionados – will be eagerly watching going into next season as well as the next three seasons of varsity football. Mackey looks seasoned, comfortable, and poised far beyond what his age would indicate, with big-time ball accuracy and overall command of the football. His timing was always spot on, he could stretch the field with noticeable ease and ball placement, and the velocity to rocket the ball into a WRs mitts, leading them open or hitting them in stride most throws. A unanimous top performer from a deep QB group at the PRZMN Spring Showcase, the the future is bright for this young Wayzata Trojan!

One of the most promising athletes in the class of 2029, Mackey has a real chance to claim the coveted QB1 role for the Wayzata Trojans next fall, and based on that performance on Saturday, I like his odds. Touting a 71″ wingspan, 8.75″ hands, and a crazy impressive 8’11” broad jump, Mackey proved more than capable when it came to the physical demands of the position. His footwork is way cleaner than you’d ever expect out of a freshman, and his arm talent has evolved into a special one. He can hit a variety of throws and possesses one of the best deep balls in the camp. He’s also extremely coachable and a very personable athlete. Don’t be surprised if we continue to see Mackey climb up the recruiting rankings over the course of his high school career.

will remain as the Trojans’ starter for 2026, but there is little doubt of Mackey’s potential to become a premier signal-caller within the state, even already earning the label as the #1 QB in MN for the class of 2029. Mackey has a spectacular arm , showing impressive placement and touch on his passes on the run A self-proclaimed dual-threat, Mackey shows good footwork moving in the pocket and extending the play, but it was his arm that for the large part stood out the most when watching Mackey play. I can’t wait to see Mackey eventually take over as the Trojans’ starting QB, though there is a good chance that we will have to be patient and wait until 2027 to see Mackey take the starting role.

There were dozens of times throughout the combine where I looked at Mackey and thought, “No way that’s an 8th grader.” Super poised and coachable, Mackey was able to outthrow a number of upperclassmen just over 6 months out from a broken back. Coaches and writers alike named him as one of the top performers from the camp, and I’m inclined to agree. He throws a great ball and is, without a doubt, an incoming freshman to watch in 2025.
