Expert Analysis
Alin Edouard | Prep Redzone Scout
Mays is one of the more polished wide receivers you’ll find on tape, and it shows every time you turn on his film. What jumps out immediately is how natural he is as a route runner — he doesn’t just run routes, he understands how to set defenders up. He changes tempo, sinks his hips cleanly, and creates separation at the top of routes without needing wasted movement.
At the catch point, Mays plays with confidence and strong hands. He consistently attacks the ball in the air, high-points in traffic, and shows the ability to win 50/50 situations like they’re in his favor every time. His body control along the sideline stands out too — he knows how to stay in bounds and finish tough catches.
After the catch, he’s not just a possession guy. Mays transitions upfield quickly and shows enough burst and vision to pick up extra yards. He’s decisive with the ball in his hands and doesn’t dance he gets north and makes defenders miss or runs through arm tackles.
What separates him is his complete skill set. Whether it’s beating press coverage, finding soft spots in zones, or making plays downfield, he checks every box. It’s easy to see why he’s holding 20+ offers from programs like Alabama, Cal, Vanderbilt, Kentucky, LSU, and Ole Miss.

One of the most electrifying sophomores across the nation, after picking up a USC offer this past weekend, expect a big outing from Mays on Friday. While he didn’t necessarily stuff the stat sheet last week against DeSoto, he did reel in a difficult deep ball down the sideline and just missed getting a phenomenal touchdown catch in bounds. With productive pieces around him, expect Mays to use his explosiveness and keen route tree to find holes in the Lions’ defense.
