Edina’s Cooper Drake, a PrepRedzoneMN Stock-Up Showcase veteran and standout, is doing a great job of raising his profile this outdoor track season, posting an 11.22 100M, 22.08 200M, and 48.74 400M for a trifecta of notable track times in the sprinting department. Only a sophomore, Drake competed in the 6A non-varsity scene for the Hornets, manning an OLB/SS hybrid type role and laso bringing a ton of production to special teams, blocking kicks and returning the ball for big gains. In five games of action, Drake brought significant speed off the edge as a blitzer and laid some big hits when he made contact as well, and he’s got a physical defensive play style that is also looking for a big hit. You can see his sprinting stance translate to his get-off on the football field, both in a two and three-point stance. Explodes from a dead stop with good leverage, and his production speaks for itself as well. I’d expect Drake to earn a varsity starting role in 2024 and I can’t wait to see how his still-developing speed will look against varsity competition.
